Postgame Notes: Washington

THE ASU VICTORY

  • Keeps ASU within a game of the first in the Pac-12 South

  • Give ASU its best 10-game mark (7-3) since 2014 (8-2) and best 7-game Pac-12 mark (5-2) since that 2014 season as well (also 5-2)

  • Herm Edwards now has his best Pac-12 record through seven conference games

    • This also ties the most wins during conference play in his tenure.

  • ASU improves to 12-2 over the Huskies in the last 14 contests dating back to 2002.

  • Also moves to 6-0 this season when ASU scores more than 30 points.

HANDLING THE HUSKIES

  • ASU’s all-time record against Washington improves to 21-16

  • This puts an end ASU’s two-game losing streak in games played in Seattle

  • It represents the first win against Washington since 2017. ASU has won eight of the last 10 games against Washington

  • This is the most points scored at Washington since a 39-19 win in 2008.

  • ASU is now 19-4 when scoring 20 points or more against Washington

  • The Sun Devils defense held Washington to only 266 yards, their second-lowest output of the season.

MILESTONE WATCH

  • Jayden Daniels now needs 386 passing yards to reach 6,000 in his career (Currently at 5,614)

  • Rachaad White now has 21 touchdowns in his career (19 rush, 2 receiving)

  • White moved into a tie for 8th in ASU single season history with 14 rushing touchdowns (School record is 19)

  • Chase Lucas tied Dexter Davis’ all-time career starts record, starting in his 47th career game.

QUICK HITS

  • With their 35-point output, ASU is now tied for most points a team has scored against Washington over an 85-game stretch where the Huskies have not allowed more than 35 points.

    • It is tied with Oregon in 2019 and Penn State in 2017 for the most allowed during the stretch. Only 14 teams have scored over 30 against the Huskies since that 2014 UCLA game, including the Sun Devils tonight.

    • UW’s streak is by far the longest streak in the nation, with no other team boasting an active streak over 43 games.

  • Merlin Robertson picked off a pass and took it to the house, collecting his third interception of the season, matching Darien Butler for the team lead.

    • He took it back 37 yards for the Sun Devils’ second pick six of the season, first since De’Andre Pierce accomplished the feat against Stanford.

    • Robertson now has six career interceptions.

    • ASU linebackers now have seven interceptions on the season - the most of any team in the FBS.

  • ASU has forced 51 turnovers created in its last 21 games dating back to 2019, good for second-most in the nation over a 21-game span behind Iowa (53).

  • Curtis Hodges caught his second touchdown pass of the season, matching his combined total from the previous four seasons.

  • Jayden Daniels’ four-yard rushing touchdown was the 12th of his career, giving him 42 total touchdowns in 26 career games.

  • ASU's 20-play, 9:09 drive in the fourth quarter was its longest by plays since 2009 (22 on a game-clinching 4Q TD drive against Oregon State) and by time since 2013 (the monstrous game-sealing 10:57 drive to close out Colorado).

CLOSE IT OUT

  • Arizona State outscored the Huskies 21-6 in the fourth quarter, making up a double-digit deficit.

    • It is the first double-digit fourth quarter comeback since the Territorial Cup victory over Arizona in 2018.

    • ASU has outscored opponents 96-35 in the fourth quarter of games this year.

  • The 21 points are notable as Washington had entered the contest first in the Pac-12 and 23rd nationally in allowing just 19.6 points per GAME on the season.

  • The series has had its fair share of late game theatrics in recent years as ASU, with this being the third-straight one possession game of the series. Additionally, ASU scored 17 unanswered fourth quarter points in 2015 to come back to win that game, broke a 10-10 tie with a 14-3 fourth quarter to take down Washington in 2014 and walked it off on a last-second touchdown pass in 2009.

  • The 21 points allowed by UW were its most given up in a fourth quarter of a game since 2013, where it gave up 27 garbage time points against Oregon State in a 69-27 UW rout.

  • In fact, since the expansion to the Pac-12, ASU has dominated the Huskies in the fourth quarter of games. Since the Pac-12 expansion, Washington has allowed opponents an average of just 5.5 4th quarter points per game (733 over 144 games). In 7 games against ASU in that time, the Sun Devils are averaging 12.6 points per 4Q points per game and outscoring UW 88-44 with ASU reaching double digits five times.

  • It was the first time UW had blown a two-possession fourth quarter lead since Washington State in the 2012 Apple Cup. The Cougs outscored UW, 18-0, in the 4th to send it to overtime and won, 31-28.

  • The 21 points were the most ASU had scored in a fourth quarter since 22 against UCLA in garbage time in 2019 after trailing 42-10 after three.

THE PRICE IS WHITE

  • Rachaad White continued his brilliant play, finishing with 184 yards and two touchdowns on 32 carries.

    • White has now scored a touchdown in 11 of his 13 career games.

    • He has also recorded 100 all-purpose yards in nine of his 13 career games as a Sun Devil.

    • White went over the 200-yard all-purpose mark for the second-straight game.

  • It is his fourth 100-yard rushing game of his career, with two coming in the last two games.

    • He has combined to rush for 386 yards in the past two games. That’s the most in a two-game span since Eno Benjamin had 432 over two games against Oregon State and Colorado in 2018.

    • His 184 rushing yards are the seventh-best ever by a Sun Devil back in a road Pac-12 game.

  • Rachaad White has multiple touchdowns in seven of his 12 games played at Arizona State and at least one touchdown in 10 games.

  • White had 237 of ASU’s 376 total yards of offense.

  • Rachaad White recorded all three of ASU’s third-down conversions in the game, all three of which were in the fourth quarter.

  • White also recorded both of ASU’s fourth-down conversions in the game, which also both came in the fourth quarter.

  • The Sun Devils carried the ball 57 times, the most rushing attempts since running 59 times in a 31-28 victory over UCLA on Nov. 10, 2018.

  • ASU’s 44 rushing touchdowns over its last 13 games are the most in the FBS over a 13-game span.

JOHNSON ON THE SPOT

  • Tyler Johnson recorded another tackle for loss, giving him 28.5 for his career.

  • He also recovered a fumble with ASU down 17-7 in the third quarter and returned it for 32 yards to the Huskies’ nine-yard line, setting up a Sun Devil touchdown.

    • It was Johnson’s fifth-career fumble recovery.
