Postgame Notes - Oregon State

POSTGAME NOTES: ARIZONA STATE 46, OREGON STATE 33

THE ASU VICTORY...

  • Turns around its recent bad luck in games played in Corvallis, where it has lost 6 of the last 7 games and 7 of the last 9.

  • Gives Arizona State a 30-14-1 advantage in the series.

  • Represents the Sun Devils’ first win in Corvallis since a 40-24 victory in 2017.

  • Is ASU’s fifth win in the last eight games over the Beavers since 2011, with the Sun Devils taking back control of the matchup after a three-game losing streak in the series from 2008-10.

  • Moves ASU to 12-1 when leading at halftime under Herm Edwards.

QUICK HITS

  • Rachaad White continues the unstoppable start to his Sun Devil career. The JUCO transfer accounted for 186 total yards of offense, giving him 100+ all-purpose yards in four-straight games to start his ASU career.

  • Evan Fields forced another fumble in the second quarter, already his third forced fumble of the year in only four games. No Sun Devil forced more than three fumbles in a full 13-game season a year ago.

  • Offensive Coordinator’s Zak Hill’s offense was explosive, featuring four plays of 50+ yards (three runs, one pass). Arizona State scored 40+ points for the fifth-time in the Herm Edwards’ era.

  • Connor Soelle became the first Sun Devil to recover an onside kick since Deion Guignard did so against Colorado on Nov. 14, 2017.

  • The Sun Devils have scored 116 points in back-to-back games, the most in a two-game span in the same season since 1973 (ASU scored 67 in back-to-back games vs. Colorado State and New Mexico)

GROUND AND POUND

  • Arizona State eclipsed 200 yards rushing for the third time in four games this season, finishing with 375 yards. It is the first time the Sun Devils have rushed for over 300 yards since doing so against these same Beavers on Sept. 29, 2018 (396 rushing yards).

  • Rachaad White exploded for two more big plays, gliding for a 51-yard first quarter rush and scampering for a 55-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. It is his second consecutive game with a 50+ yard run and fifth 50+ gain of the season (two receptions, three rushes). He is averaging 11.2 yards per touch this season.

  • With his first quarter rushing score, Chip Trayanum now has a rushing touchdown in three of his first four career games.

  • All 77 yards on the Sun Devils’ first scoring drive came on the ground.

  • Rachaad White managed to build off his three-touchdown performance on his way to winning Bob Moran MVP of the Territorial Cup. He scored two more rushing touchdowns, joining Jayden Daniels in finding paydirt twice on the ground.

DAMN DANIELS

  • Jayden Daniels hit Geordon Porter in stride for a 63-yard touchdown pass, his second-consecutive game with a 60+-yard touchdown toss.

  • Jayden Daniels rushed for a touchdown for the third consecutive game. He now has four rushing touchdowns in four games this season, surpassing his total from all of last year. Daniels has rushed and thrown for a touchdown in three-straight games and six times in his career.

  • With his XX-yard performance on the ground, Jayden Daniels reached 500 career rushing yards.

  • Daniels has now accounted for three or more touchdowns (passing or rushing) eight times in his career.

WE’LL TAKE THAT

  • True freshman linebacker Will Shaffer blocked a punt in the first quarter to set the Sun Devils up for a scoring drive, the first blocked punt for ASU since Timarcus Davis did it against No. 15 Cal on Sept. 27, 2019.

  • The Sun Devils have now forced 34 turnovers in the last 11 games dating back to last season (3.1 turnovers per game).

CAREER HIGHS/CAREER FIRSTS

  • Geordon Porter ran away from the Beaver defense on a 63-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter, the longest catch of his career. He came into the game with 135 career receiving yards, significantly adding to that total tonight.

  • De’Andre Pierce intercepted a pass for the first time as a Sun Devil, his second-career interception (one at Boise State).

  • Career-long rush of 53 yards for Daniels on his third quarter touchdown run. It is his first career two rushing touchdown performance.

    • He becomes the first Sun Devil quarterback to rush for two touchdowns since Manny Wilkins accomplished the feat against UCLA back on Nov. 10, 2018.

  • Redshirt freshman linebacker Connor Soelle forced a first fumble for the first time in his career while playing on the kick coverage unit.

  • Ricky Pearsall’s 29-yard rushing touchdown was the first score on the ground in his career.
