SUN DEVIL FOOTBALL GAME NOTES - BYU
QUICK HITS
  • With his 40-yard field goal in the third quarter, Cristian Zendejas has now made 27 career field goals.
  • ASU has now held opponents to less than 30 points in 23 of 33 games under Herm Edwards, notable as it DID allow 30+ in 32 of 43 previous games dating back in a span from 2013-17.
  • Arizona State was credited with a season-best 8.0 tackles for loss and now have at least 6.0 in all three games to start the season. It was the 9th time in the Herm Edwards era that the Sun Devils had reached the mark.
  • Punter Eddie Czaplicki averaged 48.5 net yards per punt, including two that traveled 50+ yards.
    • He showed his ability to pin the opponent deep as well, with a kick that was downed inside the BYU five-yard line.
HALFTIME ADJUSTMENTS
  • Arizona State changed the complexion of the game with an outstanding third quarter effort.
    • The adjustments of Coach Edwards’ and his staff clearly worked, as ASU outscored BYU 10-0 in the period.
    • The Sun Devils also held a 143-70 advantage in total yardage, rushing for 119 yards in the third quarter alone.
  • The third quarter shutout snapped BYU’s streak of scoring in nine straight quarters.
TURN IT OVER
  • The Sun Devils got back to their turnover ways, taking the ball away from the Cougars twice.
  • ASU has forced 40 turnovers in its last 14 games dating back to 2019, good for the most in the nation in that span.
  • It is the eighth time in the Herm Edwards’ era that the Sun Devils have intercepted two passes.
  • Jack Jones had a spectacular interception in the second quarter, the first career turnover committed by BYU QB Jaren Hall.
    • In fact, it was the first interception thrown by Hall in 119 pass attempts.
  • Merlin Robertson also picked off Hall, his fourth-career interception.
  • Despite four turnovers from the Sun Devil offense, the defense did well in quick change situations.
    • They allowed only seven points off turnovers, which came on the very first drive of the game with BYU starting at the ASU 12-yard line.
GROUND AND POUND
  • Arizona State has now rushed for 100+ yards in 27 of 33 games under Herm Edwards, including each of the last seven games.
    • 137 of those yards came in the second half, as the Sun Devils opened up running lanes after the break.
  • Daniyel Ngata formed a dynamic duo with Rachaad White, each rushing for over 70 yards and a touchdown.
DOING IT THE WHITE WAY
  • Rachaad White continues to be a touchdown machine since arriving in Tempe, scoring on the ground for the fifth consecutive game.
  • His first quarter rushing touchdown gives him nine rushing touchdowns over his last five games dating back to last season.
  • White also went over 100 all purpose yards thanks to a 65-yard receiving day out of the backfield, totaling 165 yards overall.
    • Having played in only seven games as a Sun Devil, White has now eclipsed 100 All Purpose yards in six of those.
DAMMMMNNN DANIELS
  • Jayden Daniels surpassed 4,000 passing yards in his career with a 265-yard performance.
    • He now sits at 4,216 yards in 19 career games.
  • He went over 250 yards passing for the eighth time in his career and completed over 70% of his passes.
