Vincent White enters his first season at Arizona State as the Sun Devils' assistant coach for running backs.
He has the luxury of mentoring a talented group of runners, including 1999 All-Pac-10 selection Delvon Flowers and three-year letterwinner Davaren Hightower.
Over the past three seasons White served as tailbacks coach at the University of Pittsburgh, where he tutored some of the Panthers' most prolific rushers in recent memory. In 1999, he coached second team All-Big East tailback Kevan Barlow, who amassed 630 yards and six touchdowns. 1n 1997, Pitt's running attack featured all-conference selection Dwayne Schulters as well as Billy West, who finished his career ranked among the school's all-time leading rushers.
White has a vast array of coaching experience on the offensive side of the football. He spent the 1993 season as receivers coach at Southern Methodist University before holding the same position at the University of Maryland in 1994. White returned to SMU for the 1995 and 1996 seasons where he inserted five true freshmen into the Mustangs' starting lineup.
Prior to SMU, White worked under Walt Harris at the University of Pacific as a passing game coordinator and inside receivers coach. He also held positions Tennessee-Martin (1989), Oregon Tech (1986-88) and the Denver Dynamite of the Arena Football League (1987). White began his coaching career as a running backs coach at Rangeview High School in Colorado in 1985.
White enjoyed a distinguished playing career on both the prep and collegiate levels. After leading Denver's Mullen High School to a state championship in 1978, White took his talents to Stanford where he paced the Cardinal with 475 rushing yards and 1,334 all-purpose yards in 1979. As a tailback he led the nation in receiving his senior season (1982) with nearly seven catches per game. In 1982, White also led Stanford with 15 touchdowns and 1,275 all-purpose yards en route to earning First Team All-Pac-10 and Honorable Mention All-America recognition.
He was a sixth-round draft choice of the New York Jets, but opted to play for the Denver Gold of the USFL from 1983-85.
