Player Bio: Tyler Oakes

Tyler Oakes is entering his first season as the volunteer assistant coach for the Arizona State University water polo program and will assist the coaching staff with daily practice activities and home games. A high school All-American and collegiate competitor, Oakes comes to Tempe after three years of coaching the Provo Water Polo Club men's and women's teams.

A native of San Diego, Oakes earned All-America honors in 2000 while competing for Monte Vista High School. That same year, the driver also was a first-team all-league and second-team All-CIF San Diego Division II selection. He served as a team captain. Oakes also competed as a member of the San Diego Shores Water Polo Club (1995-2001).

Upon his graduation from MVHS, Oakes enrolled at BYU-Hawaii and, as a starter, helped the Seasiders to a No. 17 national ranking in 2001.

After leaving BYU-H, Oakes headed to Provo, Utah, and BYU where he completed his degree work, earning a BS in Communication Disorders in 2006. During that time, Oakes was the head coach of the Provo Water Polo Club's men's and women's programs. In 2005, his men's team won the Aggie Invitational (Utah State, Utah and Idaho).

Oakes is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Audiology (AuD.) at Arizona State in the College of Speech and Hearing Sciences.
