Tony Quinones enters his fourth year as an assistant coach with Arizona
State wrestling. He arrived in Tempe in January of 1998 after spending four
years as an assistant at Northwestern University.
Quinones started his coaching career at Augustana College, with a head
coaching stop at Trinity College in 1990-91. He then moved on as Marquette
University's assistant before his stint at Northwestern.
Quinones is a member of USA Wrestling's national volunteer coaching staff
and has been the University National freestyle coach for the past three
years. He has also been named to the IOC technical advisory staff that
conducts Olympic solidarity programs throughout the world. Quinones has
coached and competed with international teams throughout Russia, Central and
Eastern Europe, and Latin America.
As head coach of the Wildcat Wrestling Club for three years, Quinones led
the club to a national team championship and four runner-up finishes in
freestyle and Greco-Roman at the university and FILA junior level. All told,
he has mentored 30 All-Americans in his coaching career.
A 1990 graduate of Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, Quinones received his
bachelor's degree in sport management and kinesiology. At Loras, he was a
three-time Division II and III national qualifier and won more than 100
matches in his career. He earned All-American honors at 158 pounds.
Quinones studied religion at Northwestern University prior to receiving his
M.A. from Trinity in 1991. He is currently completing an MBA at Arizona
State.
