Player Bio: Robin Pflugrad

Robin Pflugrad begins his sixth season as an assistant coach at Arizona State University in 1999. In addition to his offensive coaching duties as wide receiver mentor, Pflugrad also serves as the Sun Devils recruiting coordinator.

Pflugrad has coached a myriad of talented receivers while at ASU, including Lenzie Jackson (Jacksonville Jaguars), Keith Poole (New Orleans Saints), Tariq McDonald (Cincinnati Bengals), Kenny Mitchell (Washington Redskins), Isaiah Mustafa (Oakland Raiders), in addition to his current corps of wideouts. Poole became the school's all-time leading receiver in touchdown receptions, while Jackson was a two-time honorable mention all-Pacific-10 Conference selection.

At Montana, where he was an assistant from 1986-94, Pflugrad was Assistant Head Coach in charge of the day-to-day operations of the Grizzly program. Pflugrad also coordinated the Grizzlies' highly successful passing attack. Montana was the 1993 national passing leader in Division I, breaking 25 school, four Big Sky Conference and three national records. He was responsible for the development of all-America quarterback Dave Dickenson. Dickenson led Division I-AA in total offense and completion percentage (67.3 in 1993 and 68.7 in '94). Dickenson was awarded the Walter Payton Award, which is equivalent to the Division I Heisman Award.

During his career, Pflugrad has coached seven quarterbacks or wide receivers who won All-America honors, seven players who earned honorable mention all-America recognition, 36 all-conference players, 12 academic All-Americas and 151 academic all-conference student-athletes. In 1988, he coached an NCAA record four academic All-Americas.

From 1986 through 1990, Pflugrad was an assistant coach for running backs and receivers at Montana. He was responsible for the perimeter players in the Grizzly passing game. Pflugrad also served as the academic coordinator, the compliance coordinator, the junior college recruiting coordinator and football liaison to the Grizzly Athletic Association, laying the groundwork for Montana's 1995 national championship team.

During the summer of 1991 Pflugrad was a guest coach for the receivers with the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League.

From 1983 through 1985 Pflugrad worked at Portland State University, where he was an assistant football coach and administrative assistant in 1984-85, and the director of football promotions from 1983 through 1985. In 1984-85, he was the wide receivers and tight ends coach and also assisted with the running backs in the passing game. As the Vikings' recruiting coordinator, Pflugrad's last two recruiting classes both played in the national championship game.

In 1982, Pflugrad was the receiver and secondary coach for South Eugene (Oregon) High School. He coordinated the passing game and also coached punters. As a graduate assistant coach at Portland State in 1980, Pflugrad coached the slotbacks and assisted with all phases of the kicking game.

A 1980 graduate of Portland State University with a bachelor of science in business administration, Pflugrad also worked on his master's degree in sports administration at the University of Montana. He played high school football at North Eugene High School with former Phoenix Suns player and head coach Danny Ainge and played college football with former Arizona Cardinal quarterback Neil Lomax.

Pflugrad was a standout wide receiver at Portland State, team captain and an Academic All-American in 1979. As a player, his Mt. Hood Junior College football teams went 20-2 in 1976 and 1977 and was ranked first in the nation in 1977, when he was named all-conference.
