Player Bio: Josh Smith



ASU: A power pitcher with his size and strength... a key for this right-hander will be developing an off-speed pitch to compliment his fastball... has the upside to be an impact player... ranked by Baseball America as one of the top 50 freshman prior to the start of the 2002 season.

High School: Earned two varsity letters under head coach Larry Kiszczak... recorded 108 strikeouts in 56 innings during his senior year to earn all-state honors... maintained a 1.11 ERA and was named Lake Havasu's team MVP... played summer baseball for the Arizona Mavericks and the Lake Havasu Heat (semi-pro).

MLB Draft: Selected in the 20th round by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2001 MLB Amateur draft.

Personal: Interested in an exercise science degree... played high school and summer baseball against current teammates Nick Cadena, Jeff Larish and Joel Bocchi... also recruited by LSU... was the Key Club president and a member of the honor roll in high school... parents are Duane and Donna Smith of Lake Havasu... has one sister, Cristina (16)... his father played college baseball at the College of the Canyons under current USC head coach Mike Gillespie.
