Player Bio: Jackie Vasquez

One of the most versatile athletes on the team, whether it be making plays in the outfield, slapping to advance runners or hitting grand slams in the NCAA Super Regionals, Jackie Vasquez has done it all. A third-year transfer from the University of Kansas, Jackie enters her final season as a Sun Devil only looking to improve on the stats she's already posted. In the 2007 season, Jackie hit near the top of the line-up while collecting a .312 average, second highest for regular starters on the season behind only Kaitlin Cochran. Jackie scored 30 runs for ASU while collecting seven doubles and two home runs, both coming in the NCAA tournament, one a grand slam against LSU in the NCAA Super Regionals to seal the Sun Devils' trip to their second consecutive World Series. Vasquez drove in 17 runs on the year and of her 189 at bats in the season, struck out only 17 times, ranking her in NCAA hardest to strikeout ratio for most of the season. A quick first step and a solid arm also help Jackie reign as a solid defender in left field where she collected 44 put outs and a .958 fielding percentage. She was named to both the All Pac-10 team (HM) and the All Pac-10 All-Academic team (second) for her efforts both on the field and in the classroom. Jackie's accolades outside of the field don't stop there though, as she is the recipient of the Rosalyn Lyon Scholarship in Education and the Roma Gentry Memorial Scholarship and was named the CSAC Student-Athlete of the month in November 2007, as well as other accolades from her work with the Special Olympics.

The Special Education major was born on January 12, 1986 in Tucson, Ariz. and was a 2004 graduate of Catalina Foothills High School. While there she earned four varsity letters in both softball and basketball and captained both teams her senior year. Her awards include being named All-State and All-Southern Arizona in softball and was named All-City First Team in 2003 and 2004 as well as earning an All-City Honorable Mention in basketball. In her senior softball season she batted .525 and also set the current record for stolen bases. She was a recipient of the Scholar Athlete Award all four years of high school for both softball and basketball and also received the Daughter of the Revolution Citizenship Award. Jackie was born to Albert and Blanca Vasquez of Tucson and is the older sister to two brothers, Albert Vasquez Jr. (15) and Emilio (11).
