Player Bio: Ian Kinsler



ASU: Kinsler transfers to ASU after spending one year at Central Arizona CC...a slick-fielding middle infielder who has been drafted twice by the Arizona Diamondbacks...will contend for a starting spot at shortstop when the spring season breaks...good speed at the plate and is a proven hitter at the college level, hitting over .400 last year at CAC.

Junior College: Transferred to ASU from Central Arizona in Jan. 2002...coached at CAC by former Sun Devil catcher Clint Myers...helped lead CAC to league title in 2001...named second-team All-ACCAC by hitting .405 with 17 doubles, one triple and three home runs...knocked in 37 runs and stole 24 bases...played for the Liberal Beejays in the summer of 2001, with current teammates Robbie McClellan, Jeremy West and Ryan Schroyer.

MLB Draft: Selected in the 26th round of the 2001 MLB Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Also selected in the 29th round by the Diamondbacks following his prep career at Canyon del Oro.

High School: A 2000 graduate of Canyon del Oro High School in Tucson, Ariz....helped lead team to state titles in 1997 and 2000...hit .380 with three home runs as a junior to earn second-team all-league honors...named first-team all-state and first-team all-league by hitting .504 with five home runs and 26 stolen bases during senior year.

Personal: Major is communications...lists his most exciting experience in sports as playing in the 2001 NBC World Series in Wichita, Kan....also recruited by Arkansas...parents are Howard and Kathy Kinsler of Tucson, Ariz....has one sister, Tori (16).
