ASU CAREER: Versatile two-year player for the Sun Devils who began at safety, later moving to weak side linebacker and situational pass rush specialist...played in 22 games, starting eight...totaled 42 tackles (33 solo), seven tackles-for-loss (-20 yards), four sacks (-17 yards) and one interception...improved tremendously between the 2005 and 2006 seasons, earning a starting linebacker spot to begin his senior year and ultimately earned the team's Most Improved Defensive Player of the Year Award.
2006: Played in all 13 games, starting eight...moved from safety to weak side linebacker, and also appeared as a situational rush end in passing situations...joined linebacker Beau Manutai as co-recipients of ASU's Gail Scott Most Improved Defensive Player of the Year, presented at the team's year-end awards banquet...finished second among Sun Devil linebackers with 34 total tackles (26 solo) and seven tackles-for-loss (-20 yards)...added four sacks (-17 yards)...had the finest game of his ASU career in the opener against Northern Arizona on Aug. 31, recording nine solo tackles, five tackles for loss (-18 yards) and four sacks (-17 yards)...his four sacks are the most by a Sun Devil since Terrell Suggs in 2002, the year in which Suggs set the NCAA single-season sacks record...the four sacks also were a nation-high after the first week of the season...recorded five solo tackles, including a one-yard tackle-for-loss against Hawaii in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl on Dec. 24...added four total tackles (two solo) and a one-yard tackle-for-loss at Colorado on Sept. 16...tallied three total stops at Washington on Oct. 28 as well as at Oregon State on Nov. 4 and against Washington State on Nov. 11...recorded a pair of tackles against Nevada on Sept. 9, at No. 21 California on Sept. 23 and at No. 3 USC on Oct. 14.
2005: Played in nine games...recorded eight tackles (seven solo)...returned his only interception of the season 20 yards in his ASU debut against Temple in the season opener (Sept. 1)...had a season-high three solo tackles against Washington...had two tackles (one solo) at Oregon State (Sept. 24).
LAST COLLEGE: Transferred to ASU from Michigan State University...collected 28 tackles, including 11 solos and 17 assists as
a sophomore in 2003...also registered one sack for a seven-yard loss...saw action in
10 games as a true freshman in 2002 for the Spartans...was credited with three
solo tackles that season.
HIGH SCHOOL: A 2002 graduate of Dorsey High School in
Los Angeles, Calif... was a PrepStar All-American...named to SuperPrep's All-FarWest
Team...ranked among the region's top prospects by SuperPrep (No. 50) and the Prep
Football Report (No. 93)...rated among the West's top defensive backs by Tom
Lemming's Prep Football Report (No. 14)...made first-team All-Central City by The
Los Angeles Times as a senior...registered 90 tackles and eight interceptions in
2001 while helping Dorsey to a 12-3 overall record, including the Dons' first
city section championship since 1995...his eight picks led the Coliseum League...had
three interceptions in the 2001 league opener vs. Crenshaw...lettered in football,
basketball and track and field...captained his football team...also earned all-city
honors in track...was coached by Paul Knox...comes from the same high school that
produced three current NFL players, including Keyshawn Johnson, Naiil Diggs and
Dennis Northcutt.
PERSONAL: Majoring in interdisciplinary studies (communication and education)...mother is Carol Ware of Los
Angeles...has a son, Derron Ware Jr....has two brothers, Damio (23) and Aaron
(9)...his older brother played basketball at San Bernardino Valley College...has
several relatives who played college football, including Matt Ware (UCLA) and
