ASU: A former transfer from the University of Florida in his third season playing at ASU...will return to tight end in 2008 after moving to the defensive side of the ball last season...is expected to compete for the starting tight end job this season, as the Sun Devils look to replace their top three tight ends from 2007...an excellent athlete with great bulk for his position...has played in 19 games in two seasons at ASU.
2007: Played in 12 games as a reserve defensive end...moved to defensive end in fall camp...finished the season with 13 tackles (five solo), 3.5 tackles for loss (minus 16 yards), two sacks (minus 15 yards) and a fumble recovery...had his first tackle in win over Colorado on Sept. 8...recorded three tackles (two solo), a half-sack, and a first-quarter fumble recovery in ASU's victory at Stanford on Sept. 29...had another half-sack against Washington on Oct. 13...collected two solo tackles, including an eight-yard sack of quarterback John David Booty, against USC on Nov. 22...added two tackles in win over Arizona on Dec. 1.
2006: Played in seven games during his first season at ASU...caught four passes for 15 yards (3.8 avg.) on the year.
2005: Sat out the entire season after transferring to ASU, participating as a member of the offensive scout team.
LAST COLLEGE: True freshman tight end who did not see any action during the 2004 season at the University of Florida...competed for the Gator track and field team in discus and shot put.
HIGH SCHOOL: A 2004 graduate of Killian High School in Miami, Fla....was listed as the 15th-best tight end in the country by rivals.com...was ranked as the No. 73 prospect in the state of Florida in SuperPrep's All-American issue...earned all-conference and All-Dade County honors at tight end and defensive end as a senior...lettered and served as team captain in football.
PERSONAL: Majoring in interdisciplinary studies (education and African American studies)...parents are Ian and Harieta Guthrie of Miami, Fla....his mother is a teacher...has two brothers, Sean (26) and Chris (16)...born in June of 1986 in Miami...full name is Dane J. Guthrie.
