Player Bio: Chris Sagar



Chris Sagar (pronounced--cigar) begins his first year at Arizona State where he will direct all academic operations, act as the Arizona recruiting coordinator and help perform all coaching duties on the field with an emphasis on the goalkeepers.

Sagar comes to Arizona State after serving four years (1997-2000) as head goalkeeper coach with the Santos Futebol club (Phoenix, Ariz.).

Also from 1997-99, Sagar was the varsity boy's head coach at Prescott High School. During that time, Sagar's teams won back to back Desert Sky Region titles, advanced to the state semifinals each year, while amassing a 33-6 overall record. Named the Region's Coach of the Year in 1998, he was also the varsity girl's head coach at Mesquite High School from 1999-2000.

Additionally, Sagar was the goalkeeper camp director for the USISL Tucson Amigos from 1995-96.

Professionally, Sagar played for the WISL Arizona Thunder from 1998-2000 and for the CISL Arizona Sandsharks in 1997. During the 1995-96 seasons, Sagar was the starting goalkeeper for the USISL Tucson Amigos.

A member of the Trinidad and Tobago national U19 and Olympic teams, Sagar earned caps against the United States, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Guatemala. He also represented his country in the CONCACAF qualifying rounds for the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, earning caps against Canada, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.

A two-year starting goalkeeper at Yavapai Community College, Sagar lead his team to the 1992 NJCAA national title and was selected as the NSCAA/adidas junior college Player of the Year.

Sagar earned his degree in business (magna cum laude) from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in 1995. In the classroom, Sagar was an Academic All-American selection in 1993. On the field, Sagar was a two-time tri-captain and starting goalkeeper. In 1994, he lead Wisconsin-Parkside to its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II playoffs and a No. 1 ranking in the national polls.
