Player Bio: Carrie Buckner



2004-05: Three-year starter who established herself as one of the toughest defensive players in the Pac-10 Conference during...started every game over her last three seasons and finished with 94 career starts (125 career games)...was one of just two players on the team to start all 34 games in 2004-05...earned Pac-10 All-Academic honorable-mention laurels for the third consecutive season...was named ASU's Practice Player Award Winner at the season-end banquet...ranked second on the team with 2.4 assists per game and third with 4.4 rebounds per contest...led the team (for the third consecutive season) and ranked fifth in the Pac-10 with 2.29 steals per game...had the best assist-to-turnover ratio on the team (1.62, 81 assists to 50 turnovers)...would have ranked fourth in the Pac-10 in assist-to-turnover ratio but fell short of the minimum of 3.0 assists per game...finished second on the ASU career list with 233 steals...also ended up sixth in career rebounding at ASU with 573 boards...scored a season-high 11 points twice this season (Nov. 27 vs. Prairie View A&M and Jan. 9 vs. California)...turned in a season-best five steals four times, most recently in ASU's second-round win over Notre Dame...scored eight points on 4-of-6 shooting in ASU's NCAA first-round win over Eastern Kentucky and followed that up with a complete effort in the second round vs. No. 11/13 Notre Dame, turning in five rebounds, five assist, five steals and two points...pulled down a season-high eight rebounds twice (Jan. 9 vs. California and Feb. 26 vs. Washington State)...was named to the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament Team in November...Maroon & Gold Scholar-Athlete...helped the Sun Devils to postseason appearances in all four of her seasons, including NCAA bids in 2002 and 2005...also helped the team to the 2002 Pac-10 Tournament title.

2003-04: Earned second-team Pac-10 All-Academic honors, the second league all-academic accolade of her career...was a team co-captain and winner of the team's Faith Factor Award...was one of three players to start all 29 games...led the team and finished eighth in the Pac-10 with 54 steals (1.86 per game)...was second on the team with 76 assists (2.6 per game)...had the best assist-to-turnover ratio on the team (1.7) and would have ranked fourth on the Pac-10 in the category but fell just short of the assist-per-game minimum...was also fourth in the team in scoring (7.0 ppg) and third in rebounding (4.7 rpg)...paced the team with 57 offensive rebounds on the season...scored in double figures in nine games, including a season-high 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting at Washington State on Feb. 28...turned in the second double-double of her career with 15 points and 11 rebounds Feb. 21 against Oregon State...matched her career best with six assists three times...had a season-high five steals twice (Jan. 10 at Cal and March 18 at UNLV)...led the Sun Devils in rebounding in seven games and in scoring twice...averaged 5.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.6 steals during the team's trip to Australia in August.

2002-03: Earned honorable-mention All-Pac-10 honors...was also a first-team Pac-10 All-Academic honoree...was one of two players to start all 30 games...led the Sun Devils and ranked fifth in the Pac-10 in steals with 2.1 steals per game (63 steals)...finished fourth on the team in scoring (8.0 ppg) and rebounding (5.5 rpg)...ranked 19th in the Pac-10 in rebounding and ninth in offensive rebounds with 2.47 offensive boards per game...also finished third on the team with 11 blocked shots on the year...scored in double figures 10 times, including a career-best 16 points at UCLA on Feb. 16...turned in the first double-double of her career with 10 points and 12 rebounds in ASU's upset of 19th-ranked Arizona on Jan. 23...turned in a career-best six steals in the Sun Devils' upset of then No. 10 Washington...pulled down a career-high 12 rebounds twice (at Washington State on Jan. 11 and vs. Arizona on Jan. 23).

2001-02: Played in 32 games, averaging 18.0 minutes per game...averaged 4.8 points and 3.9 rebounds per game...tied for second on the team with 38 steals, including 15 over the last seven games of the year...started the first game of her career Dec. 21 vs. then No. 6 Stanford...scored in double figures on three occasions...turned in a then career-best 12 points on 6-of-12 shooting in a Dec. 23 win over California...grabbed 11 rebounds and had eight points, three steals and two assists in ASU's March 2 win over Arizona in the team's opening game at the Pac-10 Tournament...had nine points and five steals in a Nov. 25 win over then unranked Kansas State.

High School: A 2001 graduate of Crescent Valley High School in Corvallis, Ore....earned first-team All-Valley League honors in her last three seasons...was a first-team all-state selection as a senior...was named Valley League Player of the Year...helped her Crescent Valley squad to its eighth straight Valley League title as a senior...also earned second-team all-tournament honors in 2001...played in the Oregonian's Oregon vs. Washington Prep All-Star game...averaged 20 points, 8.3 steals and seven rebounds as a senior...turned in 17 points, six steals, six rebounds and two assists per contest as a junior en route to earning honorable-mention USA Today All-America honors...a first-team all-league and third-team all-state honors as a junior...tied Oregon's 4A girls' state tournament record with 23 steals in four games as a junior...three-time all-tournament selection at the Energy Classic in Gillette, Wyo....led her team to a 26-2 record, a conference title and a fourth-place finish at the Oregon 4A state tournament as a junior...averaged 16 points, eight rebounds and 5.8 steals per game as a sophomore...a first-team all-league selection as a sophomore...turned in 12.5 points and six rebounds per game as a freshman...a second-team all-conference and honorable-mention all-state selection as a freshman...was also named to the state's all-defensive team...earned four letters in basketball...served as a team captain as a senior...coached by Craig Ellingson.
