Player Bio: Alexis Tate



At ASU: Highly touted player who had her first year limited by a number of injuries...talented, athletic player with great skills, determination and work ethic...should be a major presence on the boards and pick up the scoring load as a sophomore... athletic, versatile post out of the Lisa Leslie/Ashley Robinson mold...has a great touch and can score inside and out.

2001-02: Played in 26 games this year, averaging 4.8 minutes per game...averaged 1.3 points and 1.3 rebounds per game in limited action...pulled down a career-best six rebounds in just seven minutes of action in a Nov. 19 win over Delaware State...scored a career-high six points on 3-of-4 shooting Feb. 23 at Arizona...had five rebounds and two points in just eight minutes in a Jan. 12 win over Washington State...knocked down 2-of-3 shots in a Jan. 6 victory at Oregon, ASU's first win at McArthur Court in eight years...blocked three shots on the year...was a Maroon & Gold Scholar-Athlete.

High School: A 2001 graduate of Rancho Bernardo High School in Escondido, Calif....suffered a torn ACL on her left knee during a tournament in San Diego in the summer before her junior year...did not play as a senior but was still honored with the team's leadership and captain awards...attended the 2000 Nike All-American Camp in Indianapolis in the summer after her junior year...was ranked 60th in the Blue Star Index of the top 100 high school seniors in the country heading into her senior year...was a four-year team captain and three-year team MVP in basketball...earned team MVP and offensive player honors as a junior, leading the team with 15.1 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 1.3 blocks per game...scored in double figures in 25 of 29 games and shot a team-best 48 percent from the field...earned first-team All-Palomar League and All-CIF Division I honors...was also named to the San Diego Union-Tribune all-county first team and the North County Times All-North County second team as a junior...earned all-tournament honors at the Bronco Invitational and the Horsman Santana Tournament...scored a career-best 25 points and broke the school record with a 91 percent performance from the field vs. Nanaimo despite only playing one half...was a first-team all-league selection as a sophomore...also earned second-team CIF Division I and North County Times all-county honors as a sophomore...recipient of her team's defensive player award in 1999...attended Calvin Christian Brothers High School as a freshman...was her team's MVP and most improved player...earned first-team all-league and CIF Division III honors...attended the Blue Star Elite Camp in Terre Haute, Ind., after her freshman year...was also a two-year letterwinner and team captain in track... ran the 400 meters in a personal best 58.20 as a junior...also ran the anchor on the 4x400 meter relay team which set a school record for second place at the CIF-San Diego Section finals and qualified for the state tournament as a junior...switched to the high jump as a senior and won the league title with a mark of 5-4...coached by Peggy Brose in basketball and Don James in track...also played with the AAU Future Stars since 1995 for coach Fentriss Winn.

Personal: Majoring in elementary education...the daughter of Charles (finance manager) and Corey (teacher) Tate...has a sister, Camille (21), and a brother, Spencer (14)...her father, Charles, played basketball at UC Santa Barbara...lists winning an AAU National Championship award as her most exciting sports experience...enjoys singing and track...born June 10, 1983 in Fresno, Calif....full name is Cathrina Alexis Tate.
