TEMPE, Ariz.– The Pac-12 Networks selected two Sun Devil Hockey games to be broadcast and televised nationally, the Pac-12 Conference and Sun Devil Athletics announced Monday. Arizona State’s games against Yale on Jan. 8 and the U.S. National U-18 team on Feb. 28 mark the first NCAA hockey broadcasts for the Network.
“Our partnership with Pac-12 Networks has been an invaluable resource for Arizona State University and Sun Devil Athletics,” said Ray Anderson, Vice President for University Athletics. “The Networks’ decision to broadcast the Sun Devil Hockey games, nationally, is not only great exposure for our program, but showcases the support of the conference as we seek out new and unique opportunities for growth and expansion within Sun Devil Athletics.”
In November of 2014, Sun Devil Athletics announced the addition of hockey as its 23rd NCAA varsity sport, becoming the first Pac-12 school to sponsor NCAA hockey. Ten of the remaining 11 universities field non-varsity club teams in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA).
"We're incredibly excited to showcase Arizona State Ice Hockey this season," said Dustin Rocke, Vice President, Programming & Development. "Pac-12 Networks continues to strive to showcase the best student-athletes from across the conference, and we're looking forward to introducing our fans to college hockey."
Both of Arizona State’s games will be played at Gila River Arena in Glendale, Ariz., home to the NHL's Arizona Coyotes. The first televised match-up, against Yale, is the opening game of the ASU-hosted Desert Hockey Classic on Friday, Jan. 8 at 8 p.m. MT/7p.m. PT. The Pac-12 Network will also broadcast the team’s regular season finale against the U.S. National U-18 team on Friday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. MT/6 p.m. PT. Because of Daylight Saving Time, the state of Arizona will be in Mountain Time for both games.
“I want to thank the Pac-12 Networks for their coverage of Sun Devil Hockey. The opportunity is a great step for this program to gain exposure on the national stage,” said Greg Powers, Sun Devil Hockey Head Coach. “Our home tournament, the Desert Hockey Classic, as well as the game against the US National U-18 team, are featured events and it is fantastic to see them broadcast nationally.”
