O'Neal Leads Pac-10 Championships After First Two Rounds

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Senior Blair O'Neal shot a three-under-par 69 Friday and is leading the field after the second round of the 2003 Pac-10 Conference Championships, being held April 24-26 at the par 72, 6,160-yard Trysting Tree Country Club.

O'Neal holds a one-stroke lead over California's Vikki Laing and USC's Mikaela Parmlid with a two-round total of two-under 142 (73-69). Her round of three-under 69 on Friday ties her career low and is the best round of the Pac-10 Championships so far.

Heading into Saturday's final round, O'Neal looks to win the first tournament of her ASU career and give its ninth Pac-10 individual title and its second straight after Jimin Kang won the Pac-10 individual championship last year. Seven Sun Devils have won eight Pac-10 individual titles, including two-time conference medalist Wendy Ward.

The Sun Devils carded a 16-over par 304 on Friday and are fifth with a two-day total of 605 (301-304), seven strokes out of fourth place. California continues to lead the Pac-10 Championships after carding an 11-over 299 in the second round for a two-round total of 591. Arizona and USC are tied for second at 596, while UCLA is fourth (598) followed by ASU (598).

Other Sun Devils include senior Ga?lle Truet who is tied for 19th with a two-round total of 153 (75-78) and freshman Alissa Kuczka who is tied for 30th at 156 (76-80). Sophomore Erin Tone is tied for 48th with a two-day total of 162 (85-77), while freshman Meredith Jones, who is playing as an individual, is 51st (82-81=163) and senior Melanie Hunt is tied for 52nd (77-87=164).
