TEMPE, Ariz.--The No. 17 Arizona State women's tennis team (14-6) is headed to Atlanta, Ga. for the first and second rounds of the NCAA women's tennis Championships hosted by Georgia Tech, May 14-15.

"I don't think it surprised me," said head coach Sheila McInerney. "When we just squeaked out of the top-16, I thought we probably wouldn't host. We've been to Georgia Tech before, so from that standpoint we're familiar with their facility.  Even though it's across the country, Atlanta is a pretty easy place to get in and out of. We're excited about it and it's better than going to the Pac-10 schools to be honest with you."

ASU will compete in its 24th straight NCAA post-season event and 26th overall for head coach Sheila McInerney. McInernery currently holds the longest consecutive NCAA postseason appearance streak, of any sport, in Arizona State history with 24. McInerney has held the coaching position at ASU for 27 years.

"I think it shows we have good kids in our program who work hard and fight hard," said McInerney. "They take a lot of pride playing tennis for Arizona State University and it shows."

The Sun Devils will face the Ole Miss Running Rebels (11-10) in the first round of competition at 9 a.m. ET on May 14, while Georgia Tech (13-10) will face Jacksonville State (13-10) at Noon ET, with the winner of each match-up facing off in the second round at 1 p.m. on May 15.

Arizona State finished in fourth-place overall in the Pac-10 with upset victories over California and USC. Senior Kelcy McKenna also unpinned Trojan Maria Sanchez' No. 1 ranking, defeating the top-ranked USC player, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4. Most recently in Pac-10 competition, the doubles pair of McKenna and senior Micaela Hein made it to the conference semifinals to become one of the last four doubles teams standing, before being ousted by the USC pair of Sanchez/Christian.

"We've had a really good year," said McInerney. "Right now it's getting these kids through exams and getting them healthy. We've proven we can play with anyone when this team is healthy and ready to go."
