LOS ANGELES – Three Sun Devils from Sun Devil Women’s Tennis will compete at the final ITA event of the fall, attempting to qualify for the NCAA Tournament later this month, held on the campus of USC in Los Angeles starting Thursday.
Senior Sara Svetac, junior Lily Taylor and sophomore Zlata Bartanusz will all represent the pitchfork this upcoming weekend. Last month, Taylor qualified for the NCAA Singles Tournament after making the ITA Southwest regional final on Oct. 19, becoming the second player under Head Coach Jamea Jackson to make nationals.
Last week, Taylor and Svetac played together in doubles and made it to the quarterfinals in the W35 Norman pro tournament, as a duo they are 3-2 this fall. Taylor made it to the second round in singles, going 3-1 during the week after making it out of qualifying. The native of Brisbane, Australia, is 13-2 this fall in singles play.
Bartanusz is 10-2 this fall in singles and is two wins shy of tying her win total set last season in singles play. She reached the semifinal at the USTA SoCal Championships in September before dropping a match to Taylor, and reached the round of 16 at the ITA SW Regionals.
At ITA Sectionals, 24 players will be selected for the NCAA Singles Championship from four sectional sites around the country. Additionally, 12 doubles pairs will be selected for the NCAA Doubles Championship set for Nov. 17-22 in Athens, Ga.
