SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Sun Devil Men's Basketball's Paulius Murauskas was named to the 2027 Karl Malone Award Preseason Watch List.

The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced the 20 watch-list candidates for the 2027 Karl Malone Award and it included the Arizona State senior forward. Murauskas is the first Sun Devil to be a preseason candidate for a Naismith Starting Five Award since prior to the 2023-24 season when Jayden Quaintance was featured on the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year watch list. This is the second major preseason accolade that Murauskas has garnered, as he was previously named Big 12 Preseason Newcomer of the Year by the other coaches in the league.

The annual Karl Malone Award, named after the Class of 2010 Hall of Famer and two-time NBA Most Valuable Player, celebrates its 13th year by recognizing the top power forward in NCAA Division I men’s college basketball. Here is a look at the full list of candidates heading into the 2026-27 season.

Paulius Murauskas

Kaunas, Lithuania /// Saint Mary's

I chose Arizona State because of Coach Randy Bennett and the strength of our relationship. I also have a lot of respect for the other coaches coming from Saint Mary's, EJ Rowland, Joe Rahon. We are all like family. After not playing my first year, they helped me get through that and I trust them to keep making me a better player.

Paulius is one of the most talented players that I have ever coached. We are thrilled that he decided to join us at Arizona State. He has a unique skill set and is an extremely hard worker. Our staff identified him as one of our main targets when first getting the job and securing his commitment also helped our program attract other players that wanted to join him as a Sun Devil. He is excited for the challenge of the Big 12 Conference and the chance to compete at the highest level.
