Soccer preview: ColoradoSoccer preview: Colorado

TEMPE – Looking to bounce back from Thursday night’s result against No. 9 Baylor, Sun Devil Soccer will return to the pitch at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium, where Arizona State will take on Colorado, which is receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25, at 1 p.m. MST on Sunday, Oct. 25.

Television

  • Ryan Sykora (play-by-play) and Adrian Peylayo (analyst) will call Sunday afternoon’s action on ESPN+, which will be available to stream on either the Disney+, ESPN or Hulu apps.

Series History

  • Of the conference opponents on the 2026 schedule for the Sun Devils, Arizona State and Colorado have the longest all-time series history, one that dates back to the 1997 season.
  • Arizona State and Colorado have met on the pitch in Tempe six times, with the Sun Devils holding a 3-1-2 record in those matches.
    • Sunday’s contest will mark the first time the Buffalos have played in Tempe, though, since Oct. 28, 2021, when the Sun Devils earned a 3-2 win.
  • The Sun Devils will be looking for their first win over the Buffalos since Sept. 23, 2022, when ASU left Boulder with a 3-2 win.
  • Entering Sunday’s match, Arizona State is 7-1-2 when scoring at least one goal against the Buffalo defense.
    • The Sun Devils have won their last two matches against Colorado (2021, 2022) when scoring a goal.
    • However, ASU is looking for its first goal against the Buffaloes since Nicole Douglas scored the eventual game-winning goal during the 78’ of the Sun Devils’ win during the 2021 meeting.
  • Arizona State is 0-1-1 when playing against a ranked Colorado squad.

Kicking Off

  • Sunday’s match will be the 600th match in Sun Devil Soccer program history.
    • Arizona State will enter the contest with a 285-246-68 (.532) all-time record in 31 seasons of competition.
  • When the Sun Devils and Buffalos take the pitch on Sunday for the 1 p.m. MST kickoff, it will mark the latest start time to a home conference match on a Sunday for Arizona State since Oct. 26, 2025, when ASU and then-No. 9 TCU also started at 1 p.m. MST.
  • Despite being on the wrong end of five results this season, Arizona State has not lost back-to-back matches this season.
    • In fact, the Sun Devils have not lost back-to-back matches since Oct. 10 (at then-No. 24 Colorado) and Oct. 16 (vs. then-No. 12 Texas Tech) during the 2025 season.
      • ASU has not lost back-to-back conference matches at home since Oct. 20 (vs. Kansas) and Oct. 25 (vs. Arizona) of the 2024 campaign.
  • A win over Colorado would give Arizona State its fourth conference win this season, marking the most in a single season for the Sun Devils since joining the Big 12 Conference prior to the 2024 season.
  • Colorado will mark the fourth Sun Devil opponent (No. 9 UNC, No. 14 Texas Tech, No. 9 Baylor) this season that is either ranked or receiving votes at the time of their match against Arizona State.
