TEMPE – On Thursday, Oct. 22, Sun Devil Soccer will return to the pitch inside Sun Devil Soccer Stadium, where Arizona State will take on Baylor (7 p.m. MST / ESPN+) in the Sun Devils’ first home match since Sunday, Oct. 11.
Entering the match at the No. 9-ranked team in the country, Baylor will mark the third ranked opponent for Arizona State this season after playing then-No. 9 North Carolina (Sept. 6) and then-No. 14 Texas Tech (Oct. 2). A win over the Bears would give the Sun Devils their first win over a ranked foe in Tempe since Sept. 18, 2025, when ASU upset then-No. 10 BYU, 2-1, behind goals from Cameron Valladares (9’) and Addison Baltodano (50’).
Television
- Ryan Sykora(play-by-play) and Adrian Peylayo (analyst) will call Sunday morning’s action on ESPN+, which will be available to stream on either the Disney+, ESPN or Hulu apps.
Series History
- Heading into Thursday’s match, Arizona State leads Baylor in the all-time series, 4-3-0, but is looking for its first win over the Bears since Aug. 29, 2010, when the Sun Devils won, 3-1, behind first-half goals from Karin Volpe (11’), Jasmine Roth (15’) and Sierra Cook (32’).
- The August 2010 matchup also marked the last time Arizona State has beaten Baylor in a fixture that has taken place in Tempe.
- Arizona State is looking for its first goal against a Baylor defense since Nov. 9, 2012, when Cali Farquharson scored in the 55’ of a first-round NCAA Tournament meeting between the Sun Devils and Bears.
- With a win on Thursday, Arizona State would snap a current three-match winning streak by Baylor and ensure the Sun Devils have the only four-match winning streak throughout the series history.
- Thursday will mark the first time Baylor has played Arizona State since Friday, Sept. 7, 2018, when the Bears knocked off the Sun Devils, 1-0, on a 59’ goal from Julie James.
Kicking Off
- A win over Baylor on Thursday would give Arizona State its fourth win against a conference opponent this season, the most since joining the Big 12 Conference prior to the 2024 season and most since winning five during its final season in the Pac-12 in 2023.
- A potential victory against the Bears would also give the Sun Devils their ninth win on the season, marking the first time ASU has won 9-or-more matches in back-to-back seasons since 2022 (9) and 2023 (10).
- With her five assists through 11 matches played this season, Amy Medley is looking to become the first freshman Sun Devil defender to lead the team in assists since Lucy Johnson was credited with eight in 13 matches played throughout the 2022 season.
- Medley is one of just 15 freshmen in program history to be credited with 5-or-more assists in a single season.
- If Mya Angus is credited with an assist during Thursday night’s match, it’ll mark the first time since 2002 – Manya Makoski (9), Brittany Cooper (5) – that a pair of Sun Devil freshmen have been credited with 5-or-more assists during the same season.
- By scoring one goal against Baylor, Arizona State would reach 100 points on the season for the first time since collecting 122 in an 18-match 2022 season.
- As a result of last Friday’s win at Oklahoma State, Arizona State will head into Thursday’s match with multiple goalkeepers (Kennedy Zorn – 7, Izzy Duink – 1) having earned at least one win in the same season for the first time since 2021, when Birta Gudlaugsdottir (6) and Julia Ortega (4) split duties between the pipes.
- Sophomore Izzy Duink’s win in just her third career match on last Friday at Oklahoma State marked the youngest win for a Sun Devil goalkeeper – in terms on matches played – since then-freshman Pauline Nelles earned a win in her collegiate debut at Boise State on Aug. 25, 2022.
