Sun Devil outlook
No. 8 Arizona State (15-3, 6-1 Big 12)

  • Last week, Arizona State improved its win streak to six in a row after two wins. ASU won at home in the rivalry match against Arizona before hitting the road to No. 17 Kansas and pulling off the reverse sweep.
  • Arizona State has a 7-1 record against ranked teams this season and has won four ranked matches away from Desert Financial Arena. These wins came against No. 2 Texas (N), No. 8 Stanford (N), No. 14 Minnesota (N) and No.17 Kansas (A).
  • In the win at No. 17 Kansas, head coach JJ Van Niel improved to 9-4 in five-set matches. It was the first reverse sweep in his time as head coach and the first ASU has had since 2022. Last week was also notable for him as he reached 100 career victories in the rivalry win over Arizona on October 15. He is the fastest coach to 100 wins in program history and the fourth to reach the century mark.
  • Senior opposite Noemie Glover is this week’s Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and is on the Big 12 Starting Seven. She started the week by earning 23 kills and a career-high 16 digs in the rivalry win against Arizona at home. In the reverse sweep at No. 17 Kansas on Sunday, she collected a season-high 25 kills, as well as four blocks. Glover has had three matches this season with 20-plus kills (seven in her career) and is on a streak of 12-straight matches with double-digit kills.
  • Also on the Big 12 Starting Seven this week is junior libero Faith Frame. She notched double-digit digs in both wins with 18 against Arizona and 17 against Kansas. She has reached double-digit digs in both matches and in three of the last four, making it 11 matches in double figures this season. Additionally, in the rivalry win, she surpassed 1,000 career digs.
  • Junior outside hitter Una Vajagić has been a double-double machine for the Sun Devils. She has accumulated eight double-doubles on the season, all coming in her last 10 matches and six coming from her last seven matches played.

Opponent outlook
Utah (12-6, 4-3 Big 12)

  • Last week, the Utes went 0-2 with a loss at home to BYU and on the road at Iowa State.
  • ASU barely leads the all-time series against Utah, 21-20. However, the Sun Devils have won the last seven-consecutive matches, which is ASU’s longest winning streak in the series. In 2025, Arizona State swept Utah in Tempe and won in four in Salt Lake City.

No. 11 BYU (15-1, 7-0 Big 12)

  • The Cougars remained undefeated in Big 12 play last week with wins over Utah and Arizona, both on the road and both sweeps. BYU’s one loss this season came against No. 2 Pitt.
  • BYU leads the all-time series against ASU, 18-9. However, the Sun Devils have won five in a row against the Cougars, dating back to 2023 when the teams met in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The last two matchups in Provo have both gone to five sets.
  • Junior middle blocker Zoey Burgess has many ties with BYU. Her older sister Kelli Jo Burgess is a middle blocker for BYU. Zoey's dad Chris Burgess is the associate head coach for the men's basketball team.
