SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Junior Lily Taylor secured her qualification for the NCAA Singles Championship with a semifinal win at ITA Southwest Regionals over fellow Sun Devil senior Sara Svetac, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 in San Diego.
This was the second time the teammates faced off this fall, with Svetac earning the win last month, 6-3, 6-4, to clinch the singles title at USTA SoCal Championships.
Both players have had a successful fall season with a 10-1 singles record after today's match. Svetac and Taylor made the quarterfinals in doubles together over the weekend.
It is the second time in the last three years that Arizona State has sent a player to the NCAAs under head coach Jamea Jackson. In 2024, Emilija Tverijonaite earned a spot to nationals with a third-place finish at ITA Southwest Regionals.
The NCAA Singles Championship is slated to take place November 19-24 in Athens, GA.
On Sunday, Taylor won her quarterfinal match 6-0, 6-4 to earn a spot in the semifinals and one win away from clinching a spot in the NCAA Singles Championship. Svetac earned a spot in the semifinal defeating the No. 3 seed, Ziva Falkner 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-3 to face her teammate.
