IRVING, Texas –  Sun Devil Swim and Dive earned more recognition from its conference peers with five student-athletes earning Big 12 Weekly Honors, announced Thursday afternoon by the league office.

For the second consecutive week, senior Ilya Kharun, Mario Del Valle and freshman Saeren Brett and Alyssa Albertyn earned Big 12 Weekly Awards, as freshman backstroker Nathan Muratory earned Men’s Newcomer of the Week.

Kharun earns his 11th career Big 12 weekly honors after winning three individual events at the SMU Classic. He was first in the 50 free (18.72), 100 fly (44.39) and the 200 fly (1:40.75), and helped the Sun Devils to three wins in relays, registering a 18.60 50 free time in the 200 free relay. Then, in the 200 medley relay, he swam a 19.10 50 fly leg, and a 43.37 100 fly leg. Kharun would earn Men’s Swimmer of the Meet and helped ASU win the team title in Dallas.

Mario Del Valle earned his second straight Men’s Diver of the Week honor after finishing runner-up in 1-meter diving (338.70) and 3-meter (364.20) at the SMU Classic. Both of his scores were improvements from the season opener the week prior.

For the second consecutive week, Alyssa Albertyn earned women’s newcomer of the week after a superb performance at the SMU Classic. Albertyn set personal bests in all three of her individual events, placing first in the 200 back (1:54.68) and the 200 free (1:44.95). Additionally, she was first in the ‘B’ final of the 100 back in 53.39. The freshman was part of two winning relays, in the 200 free relay (22.06 - 50 free) and the 800 free relay (1:46.25 - 200 free).

In his second meet as a Sun Devil, Nathan Muratory swept both of his backstroke events, winning the 100 back (46.12) and the 200 back (1:39.77), which is the eighth-fastest in school history. Muratory led off the 200 medley relay and opened with a 21.74 50 back time and a 45.68 100 back time.

Freshman Saeren Brett shares Co-Diver of the Week honors with Iowa State’s Katie Malm. Participating against NAU last weekend, she earned a zone score of 285.53 in 3-meter diving, placing first. In 1-meter diving, she was second, scoring 259.35 points.
