TEMPE – The Sun Devil Soccer program will look to improve on its position on the Big 12 Conference table on Sunday, Oct. 11, when Arizona State takes on Houston (12 p.m. MST / ESPN+) at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium. The Cougars come to Tempe in seventh place in the league, while the Sun Devils are tied eighth, just two points back of UH.

Series History

  • Sunday’s match between Arizona State and Houston will mark the first time the two have met on the pitch since Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, when the Sun Devils won 2-0 behind a brace from then-freshman Kierra Blundell.
  • Houston was the first conference opponent Arizona State beat after joining the Big 12 Conference prior to the 2024 campaign.
  • This weekend’s matchup will mark the first time Houston has played Arizona State in Tempe since Sept. 7, 2012, when the Cougars won 1-0 behind a goal from Jasmine Martinez, who played 73 minutes off the bench.
  • Arizona State will be looking for its first win over Houston in a match played in Tempe in the series history.

Kicking off

  • With a win over Houston Sunday afternoon, Arizona State will have earned its third consecutive conference win after tying the previous fixture, dating back to 2025.
    • The last time the Sun Devils lost a conference match after earning a tie in the previous league matchup was on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2025, when Arizona State dropped a 3-2 result to UCF after tying Oklahoma State, 0-0, on Thursday, Sept. 25.
  • If Arizona State earns a victory over Houston, it will mark the sixth win for the Sun Devils at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium this season, marking the fifth consecutive season ASU has won six matches in Tempe, which is also the most home wins in a single season under 10-year head coach Graham Winkworth.
    • 2009 marked the last time the Sun Devils won more than six matches (7) at home.
  • A win against the Cougars would push Arizona State’s point total in the Big 12 Conference to 10, marking the third consecutive season the Sun Devils have reached the mark in conference play.
