#7 Volleyball home this weekend for Snyder-Park Classic

TEMPE After three weeks on the road, No. 7 Sun Devil Volleyball is home for the first time this season this week for the Snyder-Park Classic, September 10-12 at Desert Financial Arena. 

Arizona State welcomes the UC Davis Aggies for the home opener on Thursday night, the No. 24 Oregon Ducks on Friday and the San Diego Toreros on Saturday. Those three teams will also face each other in neutral site matches throughout the weekend. 

How to follow and fan information
This week’s matches will be the first events of the season at Desert Financial Arena, where the lower bowl has been renovated. 

Thursday night’s match against UC Davis will start at 6 p.m. MS,T and it is Ring Ceremony Night, where the 2025 squad will receive their Big 12 Championship rings prior to the match, and fans will receive a poster and shoe charm.

On Friday, ASU will take on Oregon at 6 p.m. MST for Brain Rot Night, and fans will receive 6-7 shoe charms.

To wrap up the week, Arizona State will face San Diego on Saturday at 5 p.m. MST for Construction Night, during which team posters will be handed out

Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats as well. Updates will be provided on social media on X (@SunDevilVB) and Instagram (@sundevilvolleyball). 

Lot 59 is free parking for those attending the volleyball match. Note that the parking structure is paid parking.

  • Arizona State vs. UC Davis, 6 p.m. MST

Sun Devil outlook
No. 7 Arizona State (5-1)

  • Arizona State is riding a three-match win streak that consists of three consecutive sweeps against Colgate, Princeton and Villanova last week at the Colgate Volleyball Classic. 
  • The Sun Devils remain at No. 7 in the 20th week, ranked in the top ten under head coach JJ Van Niel.
  • ASU is 2-1 against ranked opponents this season, including a huge win against No. 9 Texas (ranked No. 2 at the time) on August 22. 
  • Junior outside hitter Una Vajagić leads ASU in kills (73), averaging 3.84 per set, and in points (85), averaging 4.47 per set. She has had double-digit kills in four of the six matches this season.
  • On defense, junior libero Faith Frame leads the Devils in digs with 55, averaging 2.9 per set, and senior middle blocker Ella Lomigora leads Arizona State in blocks with 23, averaging 1.44 per set. 
  • Freshman setter Elle Mottola continues to pace the offense with her team-best 163 assists. 
  • The Snyder-Park Classic is named after legendary Sun Devil Volleyball coach Patti Snyder-Park

Opponent outlook
UC Davis (2-3)

  • UC Davis went 1-3 last week, falling to No. 8 SMU in five sets on Sunday and San Diego State 3-0 on Thursday while also defeating Cal Poly 3-2 on Saturday. 
  • This matchup marks almost exactly five years since these two teams last faced off. That match saw ASU sweep 3-0 in 2021. 

No. 24 Oregon (5-0)

  • The Ducks went 3-0 last week with wins over Missouri, Long Island and Washington State. 
  • Oregon hasn’t faced Arizona State since the teams were both part of the Pac-12 Conference back in the 2023 season. The teams split the regular-season series, with both teams winning on the road. 

San Diego (2-3)

  • San Diego went 1-2 last week, earning their first sweep of the season against Hawaii and falling to two ranked teams, No. 8 SMU and No. 16 USC. 
  • The Sun Devils lead the all-time series 5-2 against the Toreros. ASU won the last matchup in 2024, winning in four sets.
