IRVING, Texas – As if Kierra Blundell wasn’t already going to be the answer to a future trivia question, the third-year Sun Devil became the first ASU women’s soccer student-athlete to earn the Big 12 Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week award, the league announced Wednesday morning.
Blundell is the first Arizona State women’s soccer student-athlete to be selected as a conference’s offensive player of the week since Sept. 19, 2022, when Nicole Douglas was chosen during the Sun Devils’ tenure in the Pac-12 Conference. The Langley, British Columbia, Canada native is also the ASU women’s soccer student-athlete to first earn a conference’s freshman of the week honor (Big 12 – Sept. 4, 2024), then proceed to be the same conference’s offensive player of the week (Big 12 – Sept. 23, 2026) later in their collegiate career.
Blundell is also the first Sun Devil women’s soccer student-athlete to earn multiple Big 12 weekly honors since Arizona State joined the league prior to the 2024 season. She is also the sixth different Sun Devil to earn a weekly award from the Big 12 this season, joining Jenna Whinney (freshman), Kennedy Zorn (goalkeeper), Mya Angus (freshman), Emmie Ennis (defensive) and Amy Medley (freshman). The six different weekly honorees are the most in a single season in program.
After being limited throughout the entire 2025 season due to injury, the 2024 Big 12 Freshman of the Year returned to form during her 81-minute outing against Utah last Friday night.
During the first week of conference play, Blundell led the Big 12 in points (4), points per game (4.00), goals (2) and goals per game (2.00). She accounted for 66.7 percent of Arizona State’s goal total during the Sun Devils’ 3-1 win over Utah, the first win for ASU against the Utes in Tempe since 2021. She also became the first Sun Devil to record a brace, which she accomplished on just two shot attempts, against Utah since Oct. 22, 2017, when Jemma Purfield accomplished the feat on a pair of penalty kicks.
Blundell turned in her third career multi-goal performance, her first since Sept. 19, 2024 at Houston. Her first-half goal against Utah was the first against a conference foe since Oct. 30, 2024 against Kansas in the Big 12 Soccer Tournament. It was also the first against a league opponent during the regular season since Sept. 26, 2024 against West Virginia.
On the season, Blundell is now the fourth different Sun Devil to record a brace and the first to do so against a conference opponent since she netted both goals in a 2-0 win at Houston on Sept. 19, 2024.
