IRVING, Texas – For the first time since 2020, Sun Devil Soccer has at least four weekly conference honors in a single season following the Big 12 Conference’s announcement of Emmie Ennis and Mya Angus as the Big 12’s Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week, respectively, on Wednesday morning. The honors also mark the first time in program history that Arizona State has picked up multiple conference weekly awards in back-to-back weeks.
Ennis’ ‘Defensive Player of the Week’ honor is the first for the Sun Devils since Lieske Carleer was selected as the Pac-12’s Defender of the Week on Aug. 30, 2021. Meanwhile, Angus’ ‘Freshman of the Week’ selection marks the second consecutive week – and fourth time in the last three seasons – an Arizona State student-athlete has earned the honor after Jenna Whinney was chosen last week.
Ennis and Angus’ weekly honors push Arizona State’s season total to four, which is the most since having six Pac-12 Conference selection during the 2020 season, which was played in the Spring of 2021 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The 2020 season also provided the last time multiple Sun Devils were selected as weekly conference award winners multiple times in a single season after Nicole Douglas (Offensive) and Giullia Cascapera (Goalkeeper) picked up weekly honors on March 15, before Cori Sullivan (Offensive) and Jessica Hale (Defensive) on March 29.
Ennis played a huge part - both offensively and defensively - to help the Sun Devils earn two wins on the week. Against Arizona State's second SEC opponent in as many weeks, Ennis provided the game-winning goal - first since October 2025 as the first-year Sun Devil found the back of the net on a free kick opportunity during the 30'. Defensively against the Tigers, Ennis played the length of the pitch in order to a Tiger offense, that entered the match averaging 15.5 shots per match, to its first scoreless loss to an unranked team this season. Three days later, Ennis, again, made an impact on the match as her corner kick in the 82' - with winds blowing over 30 mph due to approaching threatening weather - found the foot of teammate Mya Angus for ASU's second goal against the defending Big West champion Mustangs. On the defensive end against Cal Poly, Ennis, again, was up and down the pitch and helped, collectively, keep to the Mustangs off the scoreboard and well under its shots per match average.
Angus, in two starts to help ASU earn two victories on the week, was instrumental in opening up the Sun Devil offense by beating outside backs with her speed along the boundaries. Once into the attacking third of the pitch, she'd beat those defenders with 1-on-1 moves to draw another defender to allow a teammate to become unmarked. With her abilities to play up and down the pitch, she was another piece to the Sun Devils' defensive strategy that resulted in two more clean sheet victories on the week. And she closed out the week by scoring her first career collegiate goal in the 82' minute of ASU's 2-0 win over the 2025 Big West champion Cal Poly Mustangs.

Having now concluded a four-match home stand without dropping a result, Arizona State (4-0-1) will now take to the road in search of its fifth win on Thursday Sept. 3, when the Sun Devils travel down I-10 to Tucson to square off against Dartmouth with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m. MST at Arizona’s Mulcahy Stadium.
