IRVING, Texas – Following the Sun Devil Soccer’s record-breaking performance last time out on the pitch, Amy Medley was selected as the Big 12 Conference’s ‘Freshman of the Week,’ the league announced Wednesday morning. Her selection marks the fifth different Arizona State women’s soccer student-athlete to receive a weekly honor from the Big 12, which ties the 2014 and 2020 squads for the most in a single season.
Medley, a 5-foot-5 defender out of Montréal, Québec, Canada, joins Mya Angus (Sept. 2) and Jenna Whinney (Aug. 26) as Sun Devils to win the Big 12’s ‘Freshman of the Week’ honor through the non-conference portion of the 2026 season. Entering the season, Arizona State only had two ‘Freshman of the Week’ honorees: Kierra Blundell (Sept. 4, 2024) and Addison Baltodano (Sept. 17, 2025).
Medley’s two assists last week were the most by any freshman around the Big 12 other than her teammate Mya Angus, who also had two, and Medley accomplished the feat as a defender. With her two-assist performance against Grambling last Friday night, Medley joined Whinney as the second Sun Devil with a two-assist outing this season.
Medley finished Arizona State’s record-breaking 8-0 win over Grambling by playing a team-high 79 minutes, while setting new single-match career highs in points (2), assists (2) and shot attempts (2). Her second assist helped Emmie Ennis, a senior, complete her first career brace on ‘Senior Night.’ Playing from the back to the front, Medley orchestrated a Sun Devil offense that set a single-match program record with eight goals on a program-record 40 shot attempts, 20 of which were on target.
On the defensive end of the pitch, Medley was part of a Sun Devil defensive backline that held the Tigers without a shot attempt throughout the match’s first 45 minutes and without a corner kick for the entire match. The defensive effort eventually resulted in a combined clean sheet for ASU, despite interchanging countless pieces throughout the 11-player skeleton as a result of the goal differential.

Arizona State (5-1-2) will return to action on Friday, Sept. 18, when the Sun Devils open Big 12 play against Utah (3-3-2) at 7 p.m. MST at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium. The match will mark the first time the Utes have played the Sun Devils in Tempe, Ariz., since Oct. 4, 2024.
