Beach Volleyball adds two transfers to 2027 roster

TEMPE – Sun Devil Beach Volleyball has signed a pair of transfers to the 2027 roster: Sydney McDermott and Shira Tal, both of whom will be sophomores this fall.

The two signees join the five freshmen that were signed in the fall to up the 2027 roster to 19 total. 

Sydney McDermott
Sophomore | 6-0 | Pickering, Ontario, Canada | Kansas State

  • Played indoor volleyball at Kansas State as an outside hitter in her freshman year in 2025.
  • Played volleyball and tennis for Dunbarton High School in Pickering, Ontario, Canada.
  • Helped her teams to three provincial championships, two national championships for indoor and beach volleyball, two LOSSA Championship titles, along with a runner-up finish at the Canadian Nationals (18u).
  • Garnered two All-Star Provincial honors with all-star recognition at nationals, as well as voted the MVP at the national tournament.
  • Helped her beach team to two national championships in the United States.
  • Played club for Pakmen Gold.
  • Her parents are Alan and Jessica McDermott and she has a sister named Jenna.

Shira Tal
Sophomore | 5-7 | Tel Mond, Israel | LSU

  • Spent her freshman year with the LSU Tigers. 
  • Competed in the 2024 and 2025 Volleyball World Beach Tour.
  • Earned multiple top-20 finishes and played in over four different countries.
  • Her parents are Miri and Yaron, and she has two older sisters, Noa and Maya.
