LIMA, Peru – Sun Devil Wrestling will have two student-athletes suiting up for Team USA as Pierson Manville (U23 Greco-Roman) and Nicco Ruiz (U23 Freestyle, 74kg) are set to compete in the U23 Pan-American Championships, held in Lima, Peru, from June 11-13.
Ruiz and Manville earned their bids to Peru after claiming respective National Championships at the U23 World Team Trials on May 31.
Ruiz took first place in the freestyle 74kg division, after knocking off Oklahoma State’s Casey Swiderski, 6-4, in the semifinals. Ruiz followed that up by sweeping Northern Iowa’s Ryder Downey, 2-0 (12-4, 4-3), in the best-of-three U23 freestyle National Finals.
As for Manville, the rising sophomore continued his stellar summer season with a perfect 5-0 record, which included outscoring opponents 39-0 across the five matches and wrestling only 5:19 total in his dominant efforts.
Manville will return to Peru in hopes of defending his Greco-Roman 67kg gold medal at the U20 Pan-American Championships. He earned the most outstanding wrestler award in addition to his gold medal in July of 2025.
