TEMPE - The initial staff for new Sun Devil Men’s Basketball Head Coach Randy Bennett continues to come together with another addition announced on Wednesday.
Drew Seidenberger will be joining the program as Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives and Player Personnel, as Bennett secured a well-respected conference executive with a diverse background.
Seidenberger joins Rick Croy, Joe Rahon, David Patrick, and EJ Rowland, who were revealed as members of Bennett’s coaching staff earlier in the offseason. All five have previously worked with Coach Bennett, providing valuable continuity during a transitional phase of the program.
“This is a tremendous opportunity, and my family and I are excited to be joining the Arizona State basketball program,” Seidenberger remarked. “The chance to reconnect with Coach Bennett and be part of a place like Arizona State is truly special. I’m looking forward to working closely with our staff and administration to strategically position the program for success and build something special here in Tempe.”
Drew Seidenberger - Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives and Player Personnel
Drew Seidenberger is joining the program as the Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives and Player Personnel. He is no stranger to Arizona State, having spent the past seven years at the Pac-12 Conference. While with the league, he worked his way up from Assistant Commissioner to Associate Commissioner, overseeing men’s basketball, baseball and beach volleyball. He most recently served as the Chief of Staff helping navigate the league during a time of transition. The Pac-12 expanded, adding Gonzaga, Boise State, San Diego State, and Fresno State among others under Seidenberger’s watch. The league also secured several significant sponsorship agreements and found success with unique partnerships during his tenure.
Seidenberger returns to the University side, one he is very familiar with. He previously spent nine years on campus in various roles, advancing to eight consecutive NCAA Tournaments at three different institutions. From 2016-18, he was a part of Coach Bennett’s staff at Saint Mary’s, where he went from Special Assistant to the Head Coach to Assistant AD for Men’s Basketball. The Gaels enjoyed plenty of success while Seidenberger was in Moraga, as the program won at least 29 games in both seasons he was on staff. Future professionals Jock Landale, Jordan Ford, and Malik Fitts played for the Gaels during Seidenberger’s tenure. In 2016-17, Saint Mary’s advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament and finished No. 22 in the AP Poll.
Prior to his time at Saint Mary’s, Seidenberger served as the Director of Operations for Cincinnati from 2010-16, working under current UCLA Head Coach Mick Cronin. Seidenberger was part of six consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances (2011-16). The Bearcats were one of only eight teams nationally to accomplish the feat during that same time span. The postseason success was highlighted by a run to the Sweet Sixteen in 2012. The Bearcats captured the 2014 American Regular Season Championship and were ranked in the Top-10 of the AP Poll in two seasons while Seidenberger was with the program. Seidenberger worked with several future professionals while at Cincinnati, including Jacob Evans, Sean Kilpatrick, Troy Caupain, Gary Clark, and Tre Scott.
The first stop in college basketball for Seidenberger was a stint as the Director of Operations at Wofford from 2009-10. During his lone season with the program, the Terriers swept both the Regular Season and Tournament Titles in the SoCon. Thanks to their conference tournament triumph, Wofford clinched a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. While in Spartanburg, Seidenberger worked for current Virginia Tech Head Coach Mike Young.
While working at Saint Mary’s, Seidenberger earned my Master’s in organizational leadership in 2018. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 2009, with degrees in Accounting and Finance. He served as the Head Student Manager for the men’s basketball team from 2006-09. Seidenberger also attended Furman University from 2004-06, where he served as a student manager for the men’s basketball team.
Seidenberger will be joined in Tempe by his wife, Patricia, along with their son Rhodes and their basset hound Bernie.
