TEMPE – Sun Devil Wrestling is set to send 14 wrestlers to compete in this weekend’s U20 World Team Trials and U23 Nationals in Geneva, Ohio, where they have an opportunity to earn a spot on Team USA during competition from Friday to Sunday.
The event features a full challenge tournament and best-of-three championship series. Each U20 bracket has a spot in the championship series reserved for winners from last month’s U.S. Open, but the U23 division does not.
This weekend’s champions in the U20 competition will seal their place at the World Championships this fall, while the U23 winners do not automatically make Team USA due to the possibility of age-eligible athletes on the Senior National Team electing to take the spot.
Arizona State’s 14 representatives include NCAA All-American Nicco Ruiz and NCAA tournament qualifier Pierson Manville, headlining the Sun Devils in action.
Incoming North Dakota State transfer Aidan Brenot - a two-time NCAA tournament qualifier - will see his first action under the tutelage of the Sun Devil coaching staff with a shot at Team USA on the line.
