IRVING - On Tuesday, the Big 12 announced that Sun Devil Men’s Tennis sophomore Niels Villard was named Player of the Week following an undefeated weekend for Arizona State, after contributing two singles and one doubles win.
This marks the second career honor for the Meaux, France native, and is the team's third recognition this season.
Against No. 66 Texas Tech on Friday, Villard picked up the match-clinching win from the fifth position with his 7-6(6), 5-7, 7-6(6) victory in the match that lasted over four hours. He battled back after being down a break in the third set to secure the win.
Then in Stillwater on Sunday, Villard, alongside senior Shu Matsuoka, clinched the doubles point over the Cowboys following their 7-5 win. He finished out his undefeated weekend with a singles victory from the fifth position, defeating Aaron Williams 7-5, 6-4.
