ORLANDO, Fla. – No. 11 Sun Devil Women’s Tennis fell in the quarterfinal round, 4-3, to Texas Tech at the Big 12 Tennis Tournament Thursday afternoon at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
Arizona State (19-5) had its nine-match winning streak snapped, ending the longest win streak since 2016. Texas Tech (18-9) took an early 1-0 lead in the match by winning the doubles point with wins on courts two and three.
The Sun Devils won five of the six first sets to open singles play, leading to sophomore Lily Taylor to tie the match at one with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court three. ASU would take a 2-1 lead with a straight-sets win by sophomore AIya Nupbay, 6-2, 6-3, from court four.
The Red Raiders would tie the match at two, but freshman Sarang Lim won in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 to give the Sun Devils a 3-2 lead. Texas Tech then responded with three-set wins on courts one and five to take the match, 4-3.
The Sun Devils will return home and await their postseason fate with the NCAA Tennis selection show slated for April 27 at 1:30 MST on NCAA.com. The first and second rounds of the NCAA Women’s Tennis Tournament are set to begin May 1-2, with location, dates and times to be determined.
