TEMPE - Competing as the five seed, No. 30 Sun Devil Men's Tennis (17-9, 4-4 Big 12) will face four-seeded and 14th-ranked UCF (19-5, 5-3 Big 12) for the second time in as many matches to open the Big 12 Tournament in Orlando, Florida. The match is slated for Thursday, April 16, at 7 a.m. MST at the USTA National Campus.
With a win, ASU would advance to face the one seed in No. 9 Arizona (20-3, 8-0 Big 12) on Friday, April 17, at 11 a.m. MST.
Last weekend against then-No. 15 UCF, ASU fell 4-3 in the final contest of the regular season. The Sun Devils dropped the doubles point but managed to win five of six first sets in singles play. Shu Matsuoka and Niels Villard went on to win in straight sets, while Sarr took a straight-sets defeat.
The final three matches went to three sets, and soon the score was 3-3. In a third set of his own, Mathis Bondaz battled for a 5-3 lead after being down 0-3 in his third set, he ultimately fell 5-7, allowing the visitors to go home victorious.
