TEMPE – No. 12 Sun Devil Women’s Tennis fell to No. 25 UCF, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at Whiteman Tennis Center. Graduate Vivian Ovrootsky picked up her 11th-consecutive win in singles with a 6-3, 7-5 victory.
UCF scored the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. The Sun Devils No. 1 pair of Ovrootsky and Svetac were able to secure the only doubles win, 7-6 (4) in a tiebreaker.
In singles play, junior and No. 19 Emilija Tverijonaite secured her eighth singles win 6-3, 6-1 to tie the match at 1-1. Ovrootsky improved to 11-0 this spring to put the Sun Devils ahead, 2-1.
Sophomore Aiya Nupbay recorded her second win of the weekend in a hard-fought, 7-6 (3), 6-2 win to take a 3-2 lead. However, it wasn’t enough for ASU, as UCF held on for the match win, securing victories on courts No. 4 and No. 2.
The Sun Devils will return to action on Saturday, March 14 to face in-state rival Arizona at 12 p.m. MST at Whiteman Tennis Center.
