TEMPE – Many records were broken in Sun Devil Lacrosse's 17-7 win over Niagara (1-5) on Thursday night after senior attacker Teagan Ng became the program's all-time leading goal scorer and junior midfielder Anna Viglione set the program's single-game draw control record with 21.
ASU (3-3) outdrew Niagara 23-2 en route to a season-high 43 shots while holding the visitors to just 23 shots of their own. The Sun Devils -- who had come into the game with a top-16 scoring offense averaging 14.8 goals per game -- put up 17 goals behind nine different scorers to secure the victory at Sun Devil Lacrosse Stadium.
How it happened
Arizona State started off the game on a strong note, as the Sun Devils scored five-straight goals, including an opening goal from Kendal Morris and four from Ng. In the first quarter alone, ASU had 11 shots to Niagara’s two.
Niagara opened the second quarter with a goal, cutting the lead to 5-1, but Arizona State answered back with five more. Ng picked up two more goals for her double hat trick, reaching the 20-goal mark on the season, and cementing herself as the program’s all-time leading scorer. Niagara and ASU traded goals once more before the end of the half, with the Sun Devils up 11-2. The Sun Devils’ 14 shots in the second quarter was the most they had in a quarter today.
Arizona State picked up goal #12 at the start of the second half, kicking off the running clock. The Purple Eagles scored back-to-back goals, the Sun Devils added another, and Niagara then tacked on three in a row between the third and fourth quarters.
The Sun Devils then scored four unanswered goals to end the game and secure the 10-point victory.
Sun Devil notables
- ASU’s 23 draw controls were a season-high mark, and the second time this season the team has recorded more than 20 in a game.
- The two draw controls allowed to the Purple Eagles were the fewest allowed to an opponent in program history.
- Junior midfielder Anna Viglione’s 21 draw controls set a new career high (previously 17), and is the second-best single-game mark in the NCAA this season behind Maya Kendall's 24.
- Viglione's 21 draw controls also set the ASU single-game record, which was previously 19 by Zoe Mazur that came in the Pac-12 tournament game against Stanford on May 4, 2024.
- Senior attacker Teagan Ng also pushed her goal-scoring streak to 26 games after six goals against Niagara.
- Ng was the first Sun Devil player to take 10+ shots in a game this season, and is the first to do so since April 19, 2025, when she took 10 shots against SDSU.
- Ng also scooped up a career-high tying four ground balls against Niagara on Thursday night.
- After one goal, senior attacker Lydia Oldknow extended her point-scoring streak to 44 games – 43 of which she’s scored a goal in– dating back to the 2024 season.
- ASU held their opponent to single-digit goals scored for the second time this season after holding Lindenwood to nine on February 21.
- For the third time this season all three goalies on ASU's roster saw game action after sophomore goalkeeper Regan Spichiger was tabbed with the start.
- After tallying a season-high 43 shots against Niagara, ASU took 40+ shots for the first time since April 19, 2025 when the team notched 45 against SDSU.
- On the other hand, the 23 shots by Niagara were their second-lowest mark of the season in six games played.
- ASU's 14 shots in the second quarter were a single-quarter high this season.
- With one goal and two assists on Thursday, senior attacker Jordyn Behar extended her point-scoring streak to 25 games, which dates back to the first game of the 2025 season.
