TEMPE – Sun Devil Track and Field associate head coach Milton Mallard has been named to Team USA’s U20 coaching staff as a distance assistant coach ahead of the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships, taking place from August 5-9, in Eugene, Oregon.
"Returning to the World U20 stage as a coach for Team USA is a deeply personal honor for me. I stood on that same podium as a young athlete in 1992, and I know exactly how that experience can transform a career," said Mallard.
Mallard is in his first season at Arizona State after previous stops at Texas A&M from 2011-12 and from 2018-23, where he developed nine NCAA Champions, seven USATF National Champions and 27 Conference champions. Mallard spent the 2023-24 season at UTEP as the associate head coach of track and field. He helped lead his athletes to six school records in his time at UTEP. He was then the associate head coach for Cross Country at USC from 2024-25 guiding the team to both indoor and outdoor National Championships.
“To now be entrusted by USATF to guide this next generation—to help them navigate the pressure and find their own greatness—is a responsibility I don't take lightly. It’s about more than winning medals; it’s about preparing the future of American track and field for the global stage," said Mallard.
