CINCINNATI – Winning its third Big 12 match in a row, No. 13 Sun Devil Women’s Tennis completed a 4-0 sweep against Cincinnati at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center Saturday morning.
Arizona State (13-4, 5-2 Big 12) improves to 5-1 in road matches and is now 2-0 all-time against Cincinnati (6-9, 1-7 Big 12). The Sun Devils won the doubles point for the second-straight match with sophomores Aiya Nupbay and Lily Taylor giving ASU a 1-0 lead on court No. 1 with a 7-5 win.
In singles, junior No. 22 Emilija Tverijonaite won her 70th career singles match without dropping a game, in a 6-0, 6-0 win, to give the Sun Devils a 2-0 lead. Tverijonaite moves to 10-2 this spring and notched her 26th win this season, which is tied for the eighth most in a season.
Graduate and No. 118-ranked Vivian Ovrootsky cruised to her 14th-straight singles win to give the Sun Devils a 3-0 lead, winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. The San Jose, Calif. native has won 28 of 29 sets since January 17.
For the third time in the last five matches, sophomore Aiya Nupbay clinched the match for the Sun Devils with a 6-3, 6-2, win on court No. 4, improving to 4-1 this spring. Junior Sara Svetac was ahead in her match 6-1, 4-4 when the match was called. In doubles, Svetac and Tverijonaite won on court No. 2, 6-4, helping win the doubles point.
The Sun Devils return to Tempe to start a four-match homestand starting March 27 against Kansas at 5 p.m. MST at Whiteman Tennis Center.
