TEMPE - Sun Devil Lacrosse (5-5) will take on its second ranked opponent in as many games when it faces No. 2 Stanford (9-0) on Saturday, March 21, at Maloney Field in Stanford, California. First draw is slated for 1 p.m. MST and can be seen on ACC Network.
Saturday marks the 16th time that the Sun Devils will face off against Stanford in program history, but it will be the first meeting as a member of the Big 12 Conference.
Sun Devil outlook
After facing a 9-3 deficit at halftime, ASU battled all the way back to tie No. 4 Navy (9-0) at 10, before surrendering the game-winning goal with one minute left in regulation. ASU held the Midshipmen without a goal in the third quarter, which is a feat only one other team has accomplished this season in nine contests. Following the loss, ASU dropped to 5-5 on the season and is winless on the road in three games.
ASU leads the Big 12 in assists per game (8.60), draw controls per game (18.30), and points per game (23.60). Behar’s 36 assists and Oldknow's 36 goals each lead the Big 12 in their respective categories.
Scouting the opponent
Stanford is 9-0 on the year and checked in at No. 2 in this week's IWLCA polls. In four home games, the Cardinal averages over 13 goals per game and have held their opponents to just under eight goals per game.
Stanford is led by Alyia Polisky, who has 27 goals on the year. Her 42 points also lead the team. In nine games, Stanford has held opponents to just 7.44 goals per game, which is 5th in the nation. Their 40.9 saves percentage is a top-10 mark in the NCAA at 9th.
