ATLANTA – Freshman Albane Cachot finished third in her heat in the 50 freestyle after hitting the wall in 21.98, marking the second time she’s swam a sub-22 time this spring at the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships Friday morning at McAuley Aquatic Center.
Cachot is one of two Sun Devils all time to break the 22-second barrier multiple times in the 50 free, joining Caroline Bentz, who holds the program record at 21.65. The freshman finished 27th in the 50 free.
In the relay, junior Miriam Sheehan swam a 52.09 backstroke leg, then senior Ginger McMahon posted a 1:00.29 100 breaststroke split, handing it off to Julia Ullmann, swimming a 52.20, 100 butterfly leg. Cachot swam a 48.35 100 free anchor leg for the Sun Devils to place 22nd overall in 3:32.93.
Junior Sonia Vaishnani appeared in her third race this week, placing 53rd in the 200 breast in 2:12.91. Senior Deniz Ertan swam in her final event of the week with a 4:50.08 time, placing 54th.
Sophomore Jordan Greber and Vaishnani will appear in the 200 IM and Cachot will compete in 100 free tomorrow morning. ASU will also appear in the 400 free relay, starting at 7 a.m. on ESPN+ for its final swim of the week.
