ATLANTA – Arizona State women’s 200 medley relay team swam the second fastest time in school history, clocking in a 1:35.93, scoring six points for the team with a 14th-place finish Wednesday morning at McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

The time was a season best the opening day of competition at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships and marked the second straight season the 200 medley relay scored points for the Sun Devils. 

Junior Miriam Sheehan opened the race with a 23.90, 50 backstroke leg, handing off the race to senior Ginger McMahon who swam a 27.48, 50 breast. In the 50 fly, sophomore Julia Ullmann clocked in a 23.07 50 fly leg to put the Sun Devils in second place. Freshman Albane Cachot helped secure the Sun Devils a top two finish in its heat with a 21.48, 50 free leg.

Senior Deniz Ertan was 31st in the 1650 free to open her week, clocking in a 16:27.20. Junior Alexia Reyna was 40th in the mile, recording a 16:45.41 in the morning session, respectively. The women’s 800 free relay finished in 21st with a 7:07.24 time. 

Ullmann, Reyna and junior Sonia Vaishnani will be in action tomorrow, partaking in the 100 fly and the 400 IM with preliminary swims starting at 7 a.m. on ESPN+ at 7 a.m MST. ASU’s 200 free relay team will also be competing to conclude the morning session.
