MACON, Ga. – Sun Devil Lacrosse (5-4) fell to Mercer (3-5) 20-14 on Saturday afternoon at Five Star Stadium. A seven-goal third quarter for the Bears proved to be the difference after the score was even going into halftime.

For the first time this season, ASU was outdrawn by their opponent after outdrawing opponents 153-72 in the first eight games of the season. Mercer managed 22 draw controls to the Sun Devils’ 16.

The senior attacker duo of Lydia Oldknow and Teagan Ng led the offensive charge as they combined for 10 goals. For the sixth time in seven games, senior attacker Jordyn Behar tallied six-plus points, after netting one goal and five assists on Saturday.

Sophomore goalkeeper Regan Spichiger was tabbed with the start and tied her career high with 14 saves, however the defense allowed a season-high 44 shots by the Bears and her near-.500 saves percentage wasn’t enough for the win.

How it happened
The Sun Devils jumped out of the gates with the first goal of the contest two minutes into the game, but never saw the lead following Mercer netting the next three goals. After one quarter of play the home team led 6-4

The second quarter was the lowest-scoring quarter in the game as the two teams accounted for just six goals, with ASU netting four to Mercer’s two. In this quarter, Mercer outshot ASU 13-6 and also scooped up seven ground balls to ASU’s two. Going into halftime the score was even at eight apiece.

Mercer came out of halftime scoring five-straight goals to take a commanding 13-8 lead. The Sun Devils managed just two of their own and faced a 15-10 deficit with one quarter to play.

Despite 14 saves on the day, midway through the final frame ASU replaced Spicher in net with freshman Gabriella Henry who would close out the remainder of the game in net. Though outscoring Mercer 6-5 in the final quarter, ASU ultimately fell 20-16 in Macon.
