IRVING, Tx. – Following an undefeated weekend in doubles and singles, Graduate Vivian Ovrootsky has been named Big 12 Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon, after she led the Sun Devils to three wins at the Red and Blue invite.
Ovrootsky is the second Sun Devil to earn a Big 12 weekly honor this season, joining junior Emilija Tverijonaite, who won the honor on Jan. 20. It’s Ovrrootsky’s first Big 12 weekly honor of her career.
The graduate transfer lost only six games in three matches over the weekend, all from the No. 3 position. She defeated Texas Tech’s Mariia Hlahola, 6-1, 6-1 en route to a 4-1 win for ASU. On Saturday, Ovrootsky defeated Tulsa’s, Lilitha Sithenkosi Ndungane 6-1, 6-1, helping the Sun Devils sweep and added a 6-2, 6-0 win over Denver’s Zoe Adkins.
In doubles with junior Sara Svetac as her partner, the pair went 2-0 this weekend, winning 6-1, over the Hurricane’s Carolina Alonso and Maria Santos. Then, Ovrootsky added her seventh doubles win of the spring with a 6-1 win over Hana Novak and Marley Lambert of Denver.
Ovrootsky recorded her 90th career singles victory on Sunday in a straight-sets win against Denver, and tallied her 20th singles win this season. The San Jose, California native is 8-0 this spring and has helped the team jump to No. 6 in the latest ITA team polls. In doubles, she has a 7-1 record with five of those wins coming with Tverijonaite.
The Sun Devils will begin conference play against TCU at 4:30 p.m. MST on Friday, Feb. 27 at Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth, Texas. Live stats will be available on Statbroadcast and follow along on the team’s social media accounts on X @SunDevilWTennis and on Instagram at @SunDevilWtennis.
