TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 11 Women’s Tennis won its match against Texas Tech, 4-1, at the Red and Blue invite at Lanelle Robson Tennis Court, Friday afternoon. The Sun Devils won four singles matches to defeat the Red Raiders for the first time since 2012.
Texas Tech (7-3) scored the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead, then in singles play, Arizona State (6-2) won all six first sets in their respective singles matches to regain the momentum en route to the team win.
Graduate Vivian Ovrootsky moved to 6-0 this spring by cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 straight-sets win to tie the match at 1-1. No. 16 junior Emilija Tverijonaite won her first set by taking the first five games and then battled down 5-4 in the second set to win the last three games to take the match, 6-1, 7-5. It’s her fifth win this dual season to remain a perfect 5-0.
Quickly after Tverijonaite clinched her match on court one, sophomore Lily Taylor won her second-straight match, 7-5, 6-1, to give ASU a 3-1 lead. Then, for the second-straight match, freshman Sarang Lim clinched the win on court six with a 6-3, 6-3 victory.
The Sun Devils will play two matches tomorrow, facing Tulsa at 8 a.m. MST and Denver at approximately 12:30 p.m. at Tucson Racquet Club. Live stats will not be available for both games but follow along on the team’s social media accounts on X @SunDevilWTennis and on Instagram at @SunDevilWtennis.
