IRVING, Texas – Following its success in a dual victory against Arizona, Sun Devil Swim and Dive earned three weekly awards as announced by the Big 12 Conference Thursday afternoon.
Junior Ilya Kharun was honored with Men’s Swimmer of the Week, marking his 10th weekly honor of his career and the fourth this season. Graduate Remi Fabiani was awarded Men’s Newcomer of the Week for the fourth time this season. Freshman Albane Cachot earned the Women’s Newcomer of the Week for the third time this spring.
Freshman Albane Cachot set a school record in the 100 free, hitting the wall in 47.82, and won the 200 free in 1:44.34, which is the seventh-fastest time in school history. Both of her individual performances were personal best in the dual meet against the Wildcats after joining the team at the start of the spring.
Junior Ilya Kharun won both of his butterfly events, winning the 100 fly in 44.24 and the 200 fly in 1:38.58. Both times were an improvement from the Big 12 West Championships as he continues to bolster the fastest 100 fly and 200 fly times in the conference heading into the postseason.
Additionally, graduate Remi Fabiani swept both of his freestyle events, placing first in the 100 free in 41:57 and the 200 free in 1:32.27. In the 200 free relay, he swam an 18.32 50 free split, pushing the ASU-B squad to a second-place finish.
The Sun Devils aim to defend their conference championships at the Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships, starting on Feb. 24 at Greensboro Aquatic Center.
