TEMPE – Arizona State Men’s Basketball knocked off Oklahoma State, 85-76, to earn their fourth Big 12 Conference win of the season.

The Sun Devils (13-12, 4-8) defeated the Cowboys (16-8, 4-7) thanks in large part to the rebounding effort. Arizona State out-rebounded Oklahoma State, 45-34, an advantage that proved to be one of the major differences in the game. Head Coach Bobby Hurley's squad controlled the entire contest, leading for over 35 minutes of game action. Arizona State shot 28-of-35 (80%) from the free throw line which helped them seal the game, including a 19-of-21 (90.5%) effort in the second half. The Maroon and Gold finished with a healthy margin in several important statistical categories, including points off turnovers (26-13), second chance points (24-4), bench points (28-17), and points in the paint (38-26).

Arizona State - 85
Oklahoma State -76

For the first time all season, six Sun Devils scored 10 or more points. Everyone was getting in on the action, as Arizona State scored 85 points, moving their record to 10-2 in games in which they scored 80 or more. ASU did it without relying on the three-point shot (only five made threes), instead opting to punish the Cowboys in the paint and take advantage of Oklahoma State turnovers.

Redshirt sophomore forward Santiago Trouet made a major impact on both ends of the court. By finishing with 16 points and 10 rebounds, he accounted for his fourth double-double of the season. Freshman center Massamba Diop produced a team-best 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting, adding three blocks and seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Noah Meeusen stuffed the stat sheet with a line of 12 points, five assists, three steals, and four rebounds. Senior guards Moe Odum (13) and Pig Johnson (10) along with junior forward Andrija Grbovic (11) rounded out the double-digit point efforts.

A challenge made by Coach Hurley to his team was rebounding. His team responded with one of their best efforts on the boards this season. After collecting 45 rebounds, Arizona State is now 5-0 when finishing with 40 or more boards. Thanks to a 45-34 rebounding edge over Oklahoma State, the Sun Devils are now 8-1 when out-rebounding their opponent.

The Cowboys came into the game averaging 84.8 points per game, the 27th-best total in the nation. Arizona State held them to only 76 points, over eight points below their season average. That was a key metric as Oklahoma State came into the game 16-0 this season when scoring at least 81 points and now are 0-8 otherwise. The Sun Devils remain at home after a weekend off, as they prepare to host No. 16 Texas Tech on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 9 PM MST. Watch on ESPN2 and listen on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM (KMVP).

Series history
Arizona State moves to 3-0 against Oklahoma State in Tempe and cuts into the OSU series lead, with the Cowboys holding a 6-4 advantage. This the first win for ASU over OSU with the two progams meeting as Big 12 Conference foes. It is the first time the Sun Devils have defeated the Cowboys 1996 (losses in 2025 and 1997).

Season snapshot
Arizona State's 13-12 start comes against the nation’s 11th-strongest schedule (21st in non-conference) according to ESPN, which has ASU slotted at 71 in their latest Strength of Record metric with three Quad 1 wins credited (Santa Clara, Texas, Oklahoma). The average NET of a Sun Devil opponent this season is 95, which is tied for the 9th-best figure in the nation. Arizona State's NET strength of schedule is 16th in the nation, making this arguably one of the toughest slates in program history. Six of their wins to start off 2025-26 have come away from home (4 neutral, 2 road).

Believe in second chances
Arizona State completely dominated second chance points tonight. They finished with a 24-4 advantage in the category, a big factor in the victory. The 19 offensive rebounds from the Sun Devils were a major reason why they were able to build such a cushion in the category. The 24 second chance points matched a season-high, with ASU also reaching the total in the Kansas State win.

Getting to the line
As a team, Arizona State came into the game 65th nationally and 3rd in the Big 12 averaging 23.5 free throw attempts per game. Their 17.6 free throws made per game were 55th nationally and 3rd in the conference. They only added to those two totals tonight. Over the past 14 games, the Sun Devils are 248-of-319 (.777) from the free-throw line. In the prior 11 games, they were just 202-of-281 (.719).

The Sun Devils finished 28-of-35 from the line tonight, the tenth time with 25+ attempts from the stripe this year.  In 33 games last season, ASU had only five instances in which they attempted 27 or more free throws. They have already accomplished the feat eight times through 25 games this year. In 2024-25, the Sun Devils had only two games where they attempted 34 or more free throws (in 33 games). They have already accomplished this MORE TIMES this season (4) through 25 games, including tonight.

"Great job from the guys. We talked a lot about the film from the Colorado game in practice and the guys really internalized and focused on rebounding the ball and did. We did a very good job there.”

Coach Hurley on the rebounding effort

When Pigs fly
Senior guard Anthony "Pig" Johnson has emerged as one of the nation’s best sixth men, coming off the bench to provide energy and scoring while living up to his nickname. “Pig” has 10 or more points in 19 of 25 games, with 15 of those performances coming off the bench. He delivered yet again in the victory, accounting for 10 points, five rebounds, and two steals. It was his ninth game with mulitple steals.

Johnson finished 6-of-8 from the line and is now 79-of-96 (82.3%) from the free-throw line over the past 16 games. He has gone from 64.6% to 76.0% from the line on the season during that stretch. Johnson has at least nine free throw attempts in eight games this season and just missed adding to that total tonight.

Mo(e)mentum
Known nationally for his passing, Moe Odum is proving he can be one of the best all-around players in the Big 12 as well. Odum came into the game one of only three players in the nation averaging 17.1+ points, 6.2+ assists, 2.9+ rebounds, and 1.5+ steals per game (Boopie Miller, SMU; Christian Anderson, Texas Tech). He was Top-15 in the Big 12 in points, assists, three-pointers made, free throws made, FT%, and minutes per game. He only improved upon most of those numbers tonight, finishing with 13 points, seven rebounds, and two steals. He has at least 10+ points in 22 of 25 games this season and has 2+ steals 10 times. The seven rebounds also match a season and career high.

With his 3-of-6 effort from behind the arc, Odum now has 13 games with three or more made threes. He was also 4-for-4 from the free-throw line and is now shooting 83.3% from the stripe this season. Odum continues to move up the Sun Devil Men's Basketball all-time single season assist record book. His 150 assists this season are the 11th most in program history. He needs four assists to crack the Top-10.

He will block you
Massamba Diop is establishing himself as one of the premier defenders in the entire conference. For the seventh time in 12 Big 12 Conference games and ninth time overall this season, Diop had three or more blocks. His 34 blocks in Big 12 play are the second-most of any Big 12 player (Flory Bidunga, Kansas). Diop has 15 games with two or more blocks this season, including each of his last seven. During that seven-game stretch, he has been credited with 21 blocks (3.0 blocks per game).

Diop now has 53 blocks in 25 games on the season. Coming into the game, he ranked 20th nationally and 2nd in the Big 12 in the category and will only move up after the performance Tuesday. He was already tied for first among freshmen nationally in blocks, meaning he was top-5 in both field goal shooting and blocks for freshmen. He is the only player who can make that claim.

Stop, Diop, and Roll
Diop finished with 17 points and seven rebounds, a performance highlighted by his 5-of-6 effort from the line. After starting the season 18-of-29 (62.5%) from the charity stripe, Diop is 67-for-85 (78.8%) over the past 19 games. He came into the game third among freshman nationally, shooting 59.1% from the field. That figure was good for 32nd in the country regardless of class and second in the Big 12. A 60.0% effort from the field will only boost his numbers. He hauled in a season-high six offensive rebounds as well.

Diop is second on the team in points (13.9) and first in rebounds (5.9), producing at that level in only 29.0 minutes per game. He also has a team-high 53 blocks and is fifth on the team with 17 steals, doing all this while committing only 47 personal fouls through 25 games. He has 13 games with at least one steal and 21 games with at least one block.

It’s a mentality thing. We changed that and took everything personal. Like coach said in the past, we had to turn it around, and that's what we did. Everybody was really hyped and ready to play. When it was our turn, we did our jobs.

Santiago Trouet on the bounce back effort

Telling the Troueth
Redshirt sophomore Sun Devil forward Santiago Trouet has fit in seamlessly since transferring in from San Diego. In the win over Oklahoma State, he registered his ninth career double-double and fourth of the season (16 points and 11 rebounds). He is currently second on the team in rebounds per game (5.6) and has had the most rebounds in a team-best 12 of the 23 games he has appeared in. He becomes the first Sun Devil with four or more double-doubles since Romello White accomplished the feat in the 2019-20 season. The 16 points were also a season high. Trouet finished with one steal and one block, the seventh time he has had one or more of each in the same game this year.

In the matchup with Top-10 Gonzaga and a formidable frontline, Trouet had 10 points and 11 rebounds while adding two blocks. Trouet had two consecutive double-doubles earlier in the year, becoming the first Sun Devil since Kimani Lawrence in 2021 to accomplish the feat. Two Sun Devils finished tied for the team-lead with two double-doubles last year and Trouet has already doubled the feat.

Noah's arc
Sophomore guard Noah Meeusen continues to play his basketball of the season. He finished with 12 points on a career-best 8-of-10 from the free-throw line. Meeusen is averaging 8.8 points and is 24-for-28 (85.7%) from the stripe over the past nine games. Meeusen also has two or more steals 11 times through 22 games. He also added five assists, the third time he has reached the mark this season.

T-Allen-ted
Graduate transfer forward Allen Mukeba continues to solidify his reputation as one of the premier rim protectors in all of college basketball. He came into the game as one of only 28 NCAA Division I players nationally with over 121 career blocks in 111 career games or fewer. After another two-block performance, he now has seven games with two or more blocks. He has played in over 100 career games (111) and scored over 1,000 career points (1,069). Mukeba is the second Sun Devil to reach the two career milestones this year, joining Moe Odum. Mukeba also finished with seven rebounds, including four on the offensive end.

Bench boost
A key to Arizona State’s season has been the success of its bench unit. That was no different tonight, as the three-man unit of guards Noah Meeusen and Pig Johnson along with forward Allen Mukeba made their presence felt against the Cowboys reserves. ASU has now outscored or tied their opponent off the bench in 17 of 24 games (12-5 record). Three of the five losses when winning the bench battle were to Top-10 teams (No. 1 Arizona & No. 7 Houston). ASU’s bench won the battle over Oklahoma State 28-17 and now holds a 593-474 (+119) advantage in points this season.

Breaking down the box score
Arizona State's succes in these important statistical categories were integral to their victory over Oklahoma State.

Points off turnovers, 26-13 ASU
The Sun Devils took advantage of 17 Oklahoma State turnovers. This is ASU’s second most points off turnovers this season (27 vs. Georgia State 11/17/25).

Second chance points, 24-4 ASU
The Sun Devils tied a season-high for most second-chance points in a game this season with 24. They also did this earlier this season in the win over Kansas State (1/10/26).

Offensive rebounds, 19-10 ASU
This is the third time this season where the Sun Devils have had at least 15 offensive rebounds. They had 19 tonight (20 vs. BYU 1/7/26, 18 vs. Kansas State 1/10/26).

Points in the paint, 38-26 ASU

First half
Both teams quickly engaged in a back and forth battle with Massamba Diop accounting for four of ASU’s eight points where they led 8-7 going into the first media timeout.

The Sun Devils widened the gap of their lead following the break, going on a quick 8-3 scoring run that included a second-chance dunk from Allen Mukeba as ASU held on to a 16-10 lead going into the media timeout.

Moe Odum got the three pointers going for the Sun Devils, as he hit one off a Cowboys’ turnover. Andrija Grbović pushed ASU’s lead even further by knocking down back-to-back threes with his second one resulting in an and one for the Sun Devils as he made a 7-0 run on his own as the Sun Devils lead 29-21 going into the break.

Coming out of the timeout, the Cowboys closed the Sun Devils’ lead to just one before Moe Odum splashed a triple off a Noah Meeusen assist. ASU went into the next media timeout with a 32-30 lead.

The Cowboys tied the game right out of the break, but Pig Johnson responded with a driving layup to retake the lead for ASU. With nearly a minute to go in the first half, Grbović capitalized on a missed jumper with a second-chance layup. The Sun Devils finished the half with a 16-0 advantage on second-chance points.

Second half
The Sun Devils continued to take advantage of their second-chance scoring opportunities with a tip-in layup from Diop. ASU continued to keep the lead with a slam dunk from Santiago Trouet as they went into the first media timeout of the second half with a 47-43 lead.

The Cowboys continued to fight back and were able to tie the game, but the Sun Devils wouldn’t let them take the lead as Trouet scored the next six points for ASU as they continued to hang onto the lead 57-52 going into the break.

Coming out of the timeout, Diop threw down a thunderous and-one dunk off an Odum assist. A smooth driving layup from Johnson helped the Sun Devils still in the lead 64-59 going into another media timeout.

The Cowboys closed the Sun Devils’ lead to one coming out of the break as critical free throws were the difference during this segment as they hit five free throws to stay in the lead 69-68 going into the media timeout.

Arizona State was able to pull it away off a 9-0 scoring run coming out of the break which included a knock down three from Odum. ASU prevented the Cowboys from going on any scoring runs on their own for the rest of the half as the Sun Devils got the win 85-76.

Quotables

Arizona State Head Coach Bobby Hurley
Opening statement
“It looks like we figured out how to rebound. I thought overall, the balance was really good. I know we set the tone early in the game by establishing our ability to get some rebounds. We missed shots, but we're able to get second chance opportunities. So it's probably the biggest differential we've had in second chance points, all season. Great job from the guys. We talked a lot about the film from the Colorado game in practice and the guys really internalized and focused on rebounding the ball and did. We did a very good job there.”

On the ball security
“Turning them seventeen times was big for us, because we didn't shoot it great. This is the second time in three games that we went 5-for-20-something; against Utah 5-for-25 and 5-for-21 tonight from three and we were still able to win. That's good because usually we would need around ten made threes in a game to win against an opponent like this. Certainly, our activity was good. Noah Meeusen was very good down the stretch handling the ball - making good decisions - had a great pass to Alan Mukeba. He made his free throws, but he had some sneaky good deflections and steals at key moments. He was very active on the defensive end.”

On how it feels to get back in the win column
“It feels good to win. You've had other games, such as the UCF game, and a couple that you wish you could have gotten. Then maybe your record in the standings is a little bit better and you have a chance to inch forward, but we still have six games left. We just have to treat it that way and see how many of these we can get to close it out.”

Redshirt sophomore forward Santiago Trouet
On the energy and mindset on the bench
“It’s a mentality thing. We changed that and took everything personal. Like coach said in the past, we had to turn it around, and that's what we did. Everybody was really hyped and ready to play. When it was our turn, we did our jobs."

On the strong rebounding effort
“We lost the last game because of rebounding and coach said it in the postgame conference. So, I took it personally. He (Allen Mukeba) did as well. Massama (Diop) did as well. And we out-rebounded them by 10 or 12. That's where that came from.
