TEMPE –  Sun Devil Women’s Tennis opens the year participating in the Tennessee Invite for three days starting Friday, January 9-11 at Goodfriend Tennis Center in Knoxville, Tenn. Live stats will be available for the weekend, including a live stream on playsight.

Friday, Jan. 9
Doubles vs. Tennessee - 6 a.m. MST
Singles vs. Vanderbilt - 12:45 p.m.

Saturday, Jan. 10
Doubles vs. Baylor - 11 a.m. MST
Singles vs. Tennessee - 12 p.m. MST

Sunday, Jan. 11
Singles vs. Baylor - 7 a.m. MST
Doubles vs. Vanderbilt - 9:30 a.m. MST

The three-day invite will feature Zlata Bartanusz, Karsyn Evans, Vivian Ovrootsky, Lily Taylor and Emilija Tverijonaite in preparation for the season opener of the dual season on Jan. 19th against UC Davis at 11 a.m. MST and Grand Canyon at 4 p.m. at Whiteman Tennis Center. Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Baylor are the other teams participating this weekend.

On Tuesday, the Big 12 announced its preseason coaches poll with the Sun Devils ranking third and earning one first-place vote with 187 points, just above Texas Tech and Baylor. In the first season of competition in the Big 12 last year, the team finished 8-5 in conference play with a quarterfinal finish in the Big 12 Tournament.

In the fall, Tverijonaite finished the fall ranked No. 42 by the ITA and went 13-5 in singles. In her career, she has 57 singles wins, which is tied for 39th in program history. Senior Vivian Ovrootsky went 12-3 in singles and was ranked No. 73 in the nation at the end of the fall season. 

Freshman Zlata Bartanusz won three matches over the fall, and sophomore Lily Taylor won one singles match last semester. Junior Karsyn Evans will make her season debut this weekend after going 14-2 last year in singles.
